I'm just writing to let you know about www.diffisions.org, a new web
stream hosted by www.ear.ie. For our first stream we have put together a
selection of pieces, some of which were performed at last Decembers
Sounds Electric 05 Festival. A lot of the pieces were written using
Csound so I thought you might like to check them out. We will be
updating the site regularly with new music so don't forget to check back
as often as you can! Enjoy,

Rory.

Thanks Steven, I haven't tried it on Linux, as far as I know it works
fine for the other major platforms but I don't have a linux box to check
it out on. Are there any issues with flash on linux?

I think it should be showing now. I have no idea why it didn't earlier,
anyway let me know if you have problems with the player...

I've changed the font so hopefully it will run now, of course I have no
way of checking it so if anyone out there is running Linux perhaps you
could let me know. Cheers,

Rory.

hi rory,

i'm using firefox 1.0.8 on linux, 1280x1024 on a 17' monitor. i can visit
your site all right, although it's not always easy to read. the fonts in
the front page are a bit small but readable.

the flash object works. it's very difficult to read though, way too small
for me, specially for that kind of courier font you use. i think the
problem is you specify an absolute size in pixels ('width=450,height=185')
which may work fine in 1024x768, but is too small for higher resolutions.

nice site, and great music. good work.

best,

lj

I will try to address the problems of the font size, thanks for the info.

I had the same problem with Flash player 6. I was able to obtain an update
to version 7 for MacOS 9 (looks like all platforms have version 7 or 8
available) and now it is working.

Thanks very much to Rory and the EAR people -- I am enjoying the music :)

Hi Steven, thanks again for your help and support. I will change the
font size so that users with gigantic monitors set to 7680×4800 can read
it! The reason that there is not a download option is like you
mentioned, because of performance rights. While most composers will
allow us to give a download link to their music we're still a little
wary of what some people may do with it. For the moment it's easier for
us this way, btw you probably shouldn't have mentioned your 6 years of
flash programming, you may find you inbox full of silly questions from
yours truly. C/C++, fine, Actionscript, agghhhhhh!!!

Rory.

Just a question:
What would be a reason to someone use Flash?

The only reason I did this in flash was to help prevent users from
downloading and redistributing the audio. If I used simple html links
users could just save the audio to their machines, likewise if I used
Real Audio links users could still get to the audio. Of course my method
is not fool proof either and if someone was really determined there are
ways in which to could get their hands on the audio.
