I interpreted the instructions as meaning the path should be

"C:/Program Files/Csound/Doc/manual/html"

i.e. including the word "html" on the end, without the '.', see if that
works,

OK, I was testing on Linux where it appears to work. The documentation
ended up in

/usr/local/share/doc/csound/html

and that's the path I put in csound5gui CSDOCDIR to get it to work.
There *is* an index.html file in that directory.

In fact that reminds me, I was going to post what I did to install
csound on Linux (fedora 8)
