Subject[Csnd] Hyper Vectorial Synthesis
Hello Csounders,

I have just installed Csound 5.07 on one of my machines and was browsing through the manual when I came across Hyper Vectorial Synthesis. Question: What is Hyper Vectorial Synthesis? And how does it differ from Vector Synthesis? I read the description in the manual but I was confused at the explanation. Also, what does Hyper Vectorial Synthesis sound like? Does anyone have any examples or can describe it for me?

Many Thanks,

Steve B.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the explanation. It makes more sense to me now. I look forward to trying it as well when I get the time.

Looks like it's just a way to more easily change multiple parameters at the same time, for whatever kind of processing one wants to do with it.  So it could sound like anything.  The relevant factor is the control, rather than the sound.

The illustration in the documentation for hvs1 is a little confusing though.  From what I can tell, the "vertices" referred to in the text are actually the "squares" in the illustration.  So the zones referred to in the text would have their vertices where the digits are, and the centers of the squares would be where the vertices are in the illustration.  The illustration actually gives us 6 x 4 vertices.

I think this is brilliant, though, and I can't wait to try it with some pvs, scanned synthesis, and granular.  Or all three at once.
