Hi Francesco,

I think we need more information to diagnose the situation (also, I do
not know if anyone has Windows 8.1 to test on here?).  The one
question to ask first: are you using a 64-bit version of Windows or
32-bit?  That could cause an issue to start.  Also, could you describe
further what you mean by the operating system becoming severely
broken?  Are you seeing blue screens? Or some other information that
might give some clues?
