[Csnd] CSound crashes on Mac OSX 10.13.1

Subject[Csnd] CSound crashes on Mac OSX 10.13.1
Hi everyone,
I've problem with CSound 6.09.1 and CSoundQt 0.9.5 on mac OSX 10.13.1 (High Sierra). As soon as I compile whatever instrument created (even just a simple sine wave), when I press Run button it works the first time (even if just few seconds after I press run, instead of quite immediately playing); then if I compile the second time (the same code) it crashes (it blocks seeing that coloured circle on Mac and I need to force the exit); it crashes also as soon as I use a scope widget to see the sine wave (this happens since the first time I compile). I also use a windows machine and everything works very good and fine.
Would appreciate if someone could help me with this problem.
Thanks very much
Salvatore

I don't know, probably, so would you suggest to use the previous CSoundQt front-end instead?
Thanks

Yeah I already did and it works perfectly. But my doubt, right now, is...as soon as I want to be updated with the new release of CSoundQt and all the new features that come with it I can't do that, so It's like unavoidable for me to revert. Is there any solution to that problem on Mac? Is there some known bug that will be fixed in the future?
Thanks a lot

did you try with a different real time audio module? sometimes it helps
to change portaudio blocking to portaudio callback, or vice versa.

for each case i'd recommend to look into the configure tabs, to make
sure there is nothing strange in them. for orientation:

Hi, no I didn't and I will try all you suggested. In the meantime I just decided to revert to CSoundQt 9.4 where everything is fine.
Anyway Victor said that is something that will be fixed on the next release 6.10.
Thanks a lot

SubjectRe: [Csnd] CSound crashes on Mac OSX 10.13.1
Hi, Salvatore!

Thanks for your report! I have heard once from one person about problems with
CsoundQt on MacOs 10.13. The message was noniformative enough then and I did
not get any specifications so it styed there.

The strange thing is that both CsoundQt 0.9.4 ( I believe you are using the
updatadet 0.9.4.1?) and 0.9.5 are built on the same system, MacOs 10.12.3,
using the same version of Qt (5.9.0). If you have really CsoundQt 0.9.4, that
was build using Qt 5.8.0, so that would be one difference. Otherwise I am
really puzzled what can be the reason.

I use a rented virtual Mac for OSX development, I try to see if I can upgrade
that to MacOs 10.13 and test.

Victor, on which version of MacOs are you?

Anyway, if CsoundQt 0.9.4 works for you, Salvatore, you can stay with that
for now - there is not SO much difference. It is my problem to find out the
reasons in the sake of other users. Maybe I need to aks more questions or to
do some tests fro you to find it out then.

Unfortunately I cannot get to it before couple of days...

Once again - thanks for the signal!

tarmo

SubjectRe: [Csnd] CSound crashes on Mac OSX 10.13.1
Hi,

I was able to updgrade my building machine to MacOs 10.13.2, Building CsoundQt
with PythonQt failed, seems something has changed concerning Python but I will
get to that later.

I did a build without PythonQt support and uploaded to:
http://tarmo.uuu.ee/varia/failid/cs/CsoundQt/CsoundQt-0.9.5-Mac10.13-nopython.dmg

Please test fist, if this works. Built against installed Csound 6.09 but I
believe should work with 6.10 as well.

Greetings,
tarmo

Subject[Csnd] R: [Csnd] CSound crashes on Mac OSX 10.13.1

Hi Tarmo, thanks for your replies. Well actually I’m using CsoundQt 0.9.4.1 on CSound 6.09 and it works good on Mac OSX 10.13.2 (so I reverted to this previous release instead as you suggest as well). I will test the one you sent and I will let you know. Just one thing….you talked about CSound 6.10, is that released as new or was it just a misspelt?

Thanks a lot

Best

Hi,

I was able to updgrade my building machine to MacOs 10.13.2, Building CsoundQt

with PythonQt failed, seems something has changed concerning Python but I will

get to that later.

I did a build without PythonQt support and uploaded to:

http://tarmo.uuu.ee/varia/failid/cs/CsoundQt/CsoundQt-0.9.5-Mac10.13-nopython.dmg

Please test fist, if this works. Built against installed Csound 6.09  but I

believe should work with 6.10 as well.

Greetings,

tarmo

Hi,

Csound 6.10 is almost ready for quite long time in development branch, I think
for MacOS there is actually no public release candidate out there to download,
I guess. On widows users can download latest snapshots from AppVeyord build
for testing:
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/csound/csound/history
(select last succeeded build, then Artifacts)

And Linux users are mostly building from develop branch anyway, I think.

Hi Tarmo, thanks for sending the link below. Well, I tested the build you sent and it works good, apparently without any problem (those I mentioned in my first mail at least there aren’t). The only thing I would mention is that I noticed the graph widget doesn’t work. Attached is a simple csd file.
Thanks again

Hi,

The Graph widget works as expected for me, I in your csd you set option -d,
that means no displays, thus also nothing to graph... Try to remove that from
options ans see if it solves the problem.

I try to get to PythonQt later, seems Apple has found a new place for Python
headers and the build system has no idea about it yet. I look for workarounds.

Hi,
thanks so much I didn’t know about that. I solved exactly as you suggested (deleting -d from the options).

Could I ask you something else? What’s the reason why in the console I see the warning message (in the image attached) all the time I press “pause” button then “play” again? I read few things about buffer overrun but I didn’t get solved. Also, in the csd (image attached) when I press play I can see the scope widget of the specific waveform, but all the time I interact with sliders created the scope stops and it changes in its properties (files attached).
If you can and when you have a little time this help would be very appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance

Hi,

First I got now the fulle version built with PythonQt and it seems to work, also with older MacOS, please try:

The warning messages on pause, you can just ignore, it means that more than ksmsp/sr of seconds has passed since prefious performance pass but naturally - sine it was in pause.

Please send the cod for scope/slder problems to test with.

Hi Tarmo,

I installed and tested the dmg file of Csound with Python support you sent and it works fine. I don’t really know about the specific python code cause I’m not in use with that programming language (I use other). I just tried it with very simple lines of code (just printing a result of an expression and it responds good).
Thanks for your attention

sent and it works good, apparently without any problem (those I mentioned
in my first mail at least there aren’t). The only thing I would mention is
that I noticed the graph widget doesn’t work. Attached is a simple csd
file. Thanks again

Hi,

Fast fix: leave the Channel name field empty for the Scope widgets.

the Channel name in Scope widget's properties can be a bit misleading - if
you use it, you can have a separate k-channel in Csound code where you set the
channel number what you want to display with Scope. This can be 1,2,3 etc. Now
you have there "freq1" that you control also with the slider. No wonder the
scope cannot find channel number 1980.2 or similar.

I have never used the Channel name on Scope mysdelf, mostly it is enough to
choose the channel from the propertie's dialog.

Next time, when you have very CsoundQt specific questions, please join CsoundQt
mailing list and ask there:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/qutecsound/lists/qutecsound-users

Greetings,
tarmo

Hi,
yes it works just leaving ch. name empty. I just thought it was like all the others kvar used with widgets where we usually set and link a ch. name with its specific var.
Anyway thanks so much as usual and yes I will join CSoundQt mailing list.
Greetings
