  While I agree with you about GM, I do feel drawn to correct part of
your message (after all you did say "please feel free to correct me").

              .... debate on whether not GM is a valid compositional
platform a mute one? 
           ^____________________ surely moot, as in something debated
without particular point, rather that something that is quiet.  Or is
this am American usage?
