| Well I did promise that I would leave this alone....but you pulled me back
in.
I always thought the reason more businesses use PCs is because Microsoft
has
a quasi-monopoly stranglehold on the computing industry.
This is one of the widest misconceptions. Business are not being forced to
use Microsoft products. They can choose any platform they want to
accomplish their objectives. More often than not, they choose Microsoft
because they are the best option available at the best price point.
Microsoft leads the industry simply because they have the best marketing
strategy. Besides, you can run a wide array of OS's on the Intel chip set.
What other architecture can run multiple OS's from the same system?
I know anti-Microsoft zealots love to say that Microsoft rips off everyone
else's ideas. Where did the idea for the Mac OS come from? Xerox....
Where did idea for Netscape come from? Mosiac... Where did the idea for
csound come from? MusicX... the list could go on. The point is that
people and business emulate successful ideas all the time. Then, after
emulating it, they then try to do them better than the competor.
Ahh...good ol' captolism...Would people feel better if Bill Gates
patterned his business strategies after, lets say, the Commodore Amiga...:}
>Ah, that would be because Rhapsody is (presumably) fully POSIX compliant.
>Thats a boon for audio. I have given up smoking but I am partial to pipes.
Well that remains to be seen...Can't urgue with the pipe thing...:}
I know this is completely off topic, my apologies.....couldn't resist.
