I think this probably means that the number of paramters in your i-statement
do not match the number of p#'s in your instrument.  For example:

instr 1
idur = p3
iamp = p4
ifqc = cpspch(p5)
endin

i1 0 2 10000

Will generate some type of error which may say something about pmax.
