I always look for a 'both-and' sort of solution to issues like this -
the binary sorted score (or individual events in the same format) would
seem to be just the thing for sending in real-time to a running
orchestra (works very nicely in XTCsound, even as text), with minimum
startup delay from Csound. The score.srt text file is ovbiously useful
too, as is the in-memory option; so hopefully we can have the best of
all worlds (he said, greedily...)?
