Hi all, my name is Kathy and I'm new to csound.

My background is as an optical engineer.  After a few years as a university
professor in optics, I decided to go back and study music.  I'm about done
with coursework for a PhD in music theory.  This semester I'm doing a
little research project on sound synthesis and this is why I'm here.

Last weekend I downloaded csound 3.485 for the macintosh.  I am unable to
get it working.  I followed the instructions in the readme file, looked at
various web sites and the manual and haven't gotten anywhere.  It shouldn't
require 2 PhD's to figure this out.

I have a G3 PowerMac running system 8.1.  The program comes up.  I was
somehow able to get 'firsttest' to run once - that wasn't the first time I
tried it.  It won't run again.  And I can't get any of the other examples
running either.  It opens 'perf', I see the transport window, it then
immediately  closes without doing anything and no explanation.

My question.  I am wondering if there are things about system 8.1 causing
the trouble?  What about directories?  Anything else anyone can think of?
