Were you a student of teh great Kahane?  I remember him terrifying speakers
at conferences!  In 1976 I had just got my first calculator, an HP25
and he saw it, took it and started showing me teh errors in teh arithmetic!

I never could so arithmetic though.  We had a test at age 11 where I got 98%
because I coudl not do the simple subtraction -- algebra was trivial of 
course.

Although I don't call myself a mathematician, I am still lousy at
Arithmetic. I can deal with fairly high level algorithms and solid geometry
as long as the computer does the actual adding together of beans.

I even have to have Quicken do my check book because I will forget to carry
the three and run myself out of money! I wonder if we can identify a trend
here...
