I have produced many interesting sounds in varying mediums such as wave
editing software and the general response from most people is - "Yes, but
what are you going to use it for? are you going to make music with it?"

experimentation for it's own sake is great, but if you want more than a few
people to appreciate your music, it must have some kind of structure ( even
if a very loose one ) - a beat is not needed if and only if you can produce
a rhythmic structure without one - this can be done.

A point I'd like to make again is this : no style of music is better than
another.  To say that one is superior is simply elitist.  Music is music.
Good is good.  What does style or type of music have to do with it?
And just in case it wasn't clear, there is good techno as well as bad.
[put any musical style where you see "techno" and the sentence is still
true.]
