| For what it's worth, I've done a tad bit of tinkering with WAV files and
CSound. My hope was to use CSound to build a mock-up of a virtual mixing
console, through which I could compress/limit and equalize incoming WAVs which
I had created in Cool Edit Pro (crippleware version), and then later export
them back out to Cool Edit outside of CSound. And who knows, later on, when I
got the technique down, I might have been moved to build a front end for the
beast, or make it into an opcode....
The results? A drum track which to be sure sounded nicely compressed (only
breathed a little bit), but sounded as though you were listening to it on your
favorite local college radio station... tuned just enough off station for the
noise floor to be annoying. Eh bien.
I hope to return to that project a little later on down the proverbial road,
but I have since gotten hold of Cakewalk Pro Audio, which is taking care of my
audio jones at the moment-- when it's not locking my f#@king machine up
(swine).
Though I stand upon the shoulders of giants, I am but a gnat....
