The best result I ever got was to detonate three Stage Maroons in the 
middle of a playing field, surrounded on three sides by houses. The 
initial BANG is very loud, but is then followed by three beautiful 
echoes from the houses; there's an almost reverse-reverb effect on the 
echoes as well. Do it at night to minimise background noise. You may 
also need to substitute mains voltage for the 9V battery which normally 
fires the maroons, due to the long cable runs.

As a bonus, you also get a nice light show after the experiment, as many 
bedroom lights come on in a nice star-field effect around the field.

A subsequent low profile is reccommended....;)
