Two essential books in computer music in general:

Dodge, Charles & Thomas Jerse (2nd. ed. 1997)
Computer Music: Synthesis, Composition and Performance, Schirmer.

Roads, Curtis (1996)
The Computer Music Tutorial, MIT Press.

Moore's book (Elements of Computer Music, see previous mail) seems to
be out of print. I'm trying myself to find a copy for our library.
Perhaps we should start nagging Prentice Hall for a reprint?

These are two new books on DSP. I haven't read them, but they are
supposedly quite good and very practical:

Broesch, James (1997)
Digital Signal Processing Demystified

Proakis, John & Dimitris Manolakis (1997)
Digital Signal Processing: Principles, Algorithms, and Applications

The following are collections of papers on synthesis and DSP, as well
as other aspects of computer music:

Mathews, Max & John Pierce, eds. (1989)
Current Directions in Computer Music Research, MIT Press.

Roads, Curtis & John Strawn, eds. (1985)
Foundations of Computer Music, MIT Press.

Roads, Curtis, & John Pierce, eds. (1990)
The Music Machine, MIT Press.

Roads, Curtis, ed. (1985)
Composers and the Computer, William Kaufmann, Inc.

Strawn, John, ed. (1985)
Digital Audio Signal Processing: An Anthology, A-R Editions

Strawn, John, ed. (1985)
Digital Audio Engineering: An Anthology, A-R Editions

Yeah, ya just gotta have this one.....

Just saw this on Amazon. It looks great. Would it make a suitable
kind-of-replacement if one can't find Moore's renowned book? Or should I
just keep trying for Moore?

>Broesch, James (1997)
>Digital Signal Processing Demystified

Just got this one. A good basic 'topical overview' that will clear up
basic questions and concepts, but will leave the real nutsnbolts hungry DSP
fiend looking for more (or Moore, heheh....).
