| i dont know anyone with CE running any good software. but i guess that
is because i am a palmpiloteer and CE is my mortal enemy.
that aside, you would probably need to specially recompile and even
rewrite system stuff in csound for it to work in CE. as far as i know,
you cant just d/l a real windows file onto CE and it works. also,
generating wav files is a concern, as handheld devices dont have hard
drives, but have memory (8 or 16 megs on CE devices). any good csound
work easily fills up that space quickly. also also, the processor is
_really_ slow compared to desktop computers, so it would take a long
time. also also also, CE devices are noted for their very short battery
life, 2 or 3 hours from what i have heard. i doubt you could keep the
device alive long enough to finish generation.
i dont think CE devices can use PCMCIA cards of any sort. sound
features are built right into the OS. you should realize that windows
CE is not normal windows, but a very slimmed down version, with much
more limited ability.
of course i could be wrong on most of this too. i dont own one and i
dont want to. they are slower, more bloated, and more expensive than
palmpilots. they also run windows, which isnt a good thing. but you
also cant do any of this stuff on a palmpilot.
i dont mean to be such a downer on this topic, but running csound on a
handheld computer is really beyond the technology right now. this could
change next year though.
there is a list called handheld-music@onelist.com that discusses musical
uses of small computers. i have done midi controllers for my palmpilot,
and soon i will begin work on an app that emulates the peavey 1600x.
info on the list can be had at
http://www.crudites.org/soundventures/handheld-music/
good luck! if you get something going, please let us know at
handheld-music. this is an exciting time to be doing computer music!
