Apparently the University of Iowa Music Studios are creating a 'free online
database of musical instrument soundfiles' in 16-bit/44.1 AIFF format. The
URL is .
The sounds were recorded in an anechoic chamber with three dynamic levels
for each chromatic note. I'm not what the timbral variety (range of vibrato,
pizz etc) is like though, as i haven't had chance to check them out.

Subject: violin samples anywhere ?

Greetings:

I'm testing MIDI control of Csound with an external sequencer. It
works fine, and I'd like to get a decent set of violin samples for a
particular piece. Looped AIFF files would be best, but I can convert
to/from a wide variety of formats. Are there any public-domain
collections of samples of standard orchestral instruments ? TIA...
