This is the problem. line will output values that start at 1 and go to -5.
As soon as it goes below 0, it effectively starts up again. (A negative
frequency is the same as a positive one, but with an inversion of phase - in
other words, it sounds the same.) Your orchestra should work fine if you
replaced the line with:
kdown line 1, p3, .125 ;cause a 4 octave drop over p3 seconds.
