A propos Visual C++ 6: believe it or not, there is already a Service
Pack issued for this - some of the 'distributables' (such as mfc42.dll,
etc) were not compatible with existing applications. Like a lamb to the
slaughter (or a lemming approaching a cliff...) I will upgrade to this
myself ere long. I am interested to know of any emergent bugs,
especially in the floating-point optimizer, since that was so ruinated
in V 5!
