Markov Chains

With a view to writing a csound score generator (honest!), I'm researching the implimentation of Markov Chains in algorithmic composition. I've read up on Hiller and Isaacson's Illiac Suite, M, and Jam Factory, but if anyone out there has some experience they wouldn't mind sharing, I'd love to hear from you. Does anyone know if M, and Jam Factory are still going concerns? A net search produces plenty of references, but no indication of either program's state of health. Cheers Arne |

For M you can try David Zicarelli's "Cycling '74" web site. There is a new PPC version. >With a view to writing a csound score generator (honest!), I'm researching >the implimentation of Markov Chains in algorithmic composition. >I've read up on Hiller and Isaacson's Illiac Suite, M, and Jam Factory, but >if anyone out there has some experience they wouldn't mind sharing, I'd >love to hear from you. >Does anyone know if M, and Jam Factory are still going concerns? Charles Ames' neglected program "Compose" for the Mac has a module for
Markov Chains, with a simple interface to enter constant or variable
states and transition probabilities. It also generates csound score lists.
If the program and its tutorials are not archived anywhere, they should
be.
