the Composer's Desktop Project is run by composers to enable 
musicians to have access to powerful + high quality music making 
tools. Csound is supplied as part of the suite of programs. The 
version I have currently has over a hundred separate programs. 
Trevor Wishart's Phase Vocoder work is immensely useful, and 
there are many programs designed to emulate processes in a 
"classical" electronic music studio. Most programs run under DOS, 
but more user-friendly interfaces are becoming available, such as 
Grainmill, a version of Granula - excellent granular synthesis.
