No, it has become clear from several sources that this is not possible.
The SB Live is basically a stereo card, but which will create a surround
output from a stereo input using on-board 3D audio stuff.


FWIW, I have recently been told about the VideoLogic 'SonicVortex 2'
card, which is very cheap, but which is apparently a true quad card, and
can play a quad WAVE file. it does report itself as one four-channel
device.
