Subject[OT] Linux OSS problems
Sorry for the very off-topic message. My only excuse is that I am
usually quite good and don't do this too often (at least I hope I
don't!)

I posted this on comp.os.linux.misc, but out of impatience thought I'd
ask here too.

I am running a P100 with Roland MPU-401 IPC and SB32-AWE, which was
working fine with OSS-commercial on what was basically a RedHat 4.1
based mix.

I recently upgraded using a RedHat 5.2 CD, and am using the pre-compiled
2.0.36 kernel from the RPM on that CD. I re-downloaded OSS (don't know
if I neeeded to(?)), and re-installed it. Although soundconf.log and
soundon.log look completely fine, the MPU-401 driver hangs the machine
when it is opened, with an endless stream of data-send timeout messages.

I haven't heard anything from opensound tech-support, and from past
correspondence, I don't think they will send me the source code.

So, are any of you Linux people successfully using this combination. If
so, or if not, let me know. I suppose what I will have to end up doing
is to figure out how to install the OSS-free drivers, and to see if that
works.
