[Csnd] pconvolve IR files

Thank goodness for Iain McCurdy's wonderful set of examples! (And thank you, Iain McCurdy!) I was almost ready to give up on pconvolve, but his example got me almost all the way there. I was able to downsample a third-party impulse response file, split it to two mono files, and use it in the example instead of Stairwell{L,R}.wav. The result sounds very encouraging. I got the file from this pretty random site: ... and that's nice, but I wonder what IR archives are favorites of list participants. It's not easy to search for, because you get lots of gimmicky marketing for IR stuff locked into proprietary software. -- Ed Cashin <ecashin@noserose.net> |

Lots of free IR files to be had. Sorry, not sure where I got mine. Sent from my iPhone

Thanks very much, Jeanette. That gives me a lot to go through. I'm working in 88200 sample rate and 24 bits, so it will be interesting to see how many of the impulse response files are at those values or greater. Few, if any. :) Most would be 44.1kHz, a few 48kHz. Thanks. They have freebies and for-sale bundles. I'm not against paying a bit for a quality collection. I notice, though, that even at that site the sampling rate doesn't go above 48000. It's probably OK, though, since it's 24 or 32 bit. On Fri, Mar 1, 2019 at 9:27 AM Justin Rosander <justinrosander@gmail.com> wrote:

On Linux I'd suggest zresample (known as zita-resample before), very good quality. Best wishes,. For resampling FFmpeg works and is very well maintained as it is very widely used, including in Google Chrome. I wonder if they borrowed SRC code. On Sat, Mar 2, 2019, 07:56 Jeanette C. <julien@mail.upb.de> wrote: Mar 1 2019, pete.goodeve@COMPUTER.ORG has written: |

Well I was planning to use csound if necessary, but I figured downsampling a more accurate IR is preferable to upsampling one with a lower rate. The csound opcode I was looking at, src_conv, has several levels of quality for sample rate conversion. The docs made it sound like the highest-quality option would be competitive with any of the other tools. On Fri, Mar 1, 2019 at 2:05 PM Michael Gogins <michael.gogins@gmail.com> wrote:
