SubjectRe: [Csnd] integer's posts?
Hello,

It is quite surprising why people get so upset by
Netochka Nezvanova's emails:

>> All I can say is it seems phonetic at times with the letter "i" replaced
>> with a "!"
>> It doesnt help me though...
>> anyone else?
-In order to understand, read it up aloud to youself and
the words will form understandable sound-patters that
resemble basic English phrasings, sometimes interspersed
 with semi-German and French expressions.

>>From what I can tell it's mostly drug induced ranting about the *facism* of
>corp. America, male bashing, anti religious and anti whatever *ahem* stuff.
>If she said something revelant to say,
-If it were all irrelevant, then presumably people would not react
 so virulent.

>prefer to exist in isolation
-The amount of emails she is sending can hardly be called like that.

In general they are intriguing, sometimes insulting, but always
entertaining.

greetings

I think I need to explain a little -- although the query seemed to
come from me, it actually came from Jim Stevenson, (I forwarded rather
badly in this case) who has a particular reason to be confused by its
mail -- he uses a speech generator to read the mail, and so all these
visual puns are likely to be a real problem for the software.

Personally I am aware that we do have visually impaired members of this
list and I attempt (but do not always succeed) is making my messages
as coherent as I can for such people. Indeed I have recently
interposed a spelling checker to correct by incompetent spelling (but
I am not always sure which is the correct spelling from the 9 it
offers me).

I also have all mail from it send to the junk file unread; this is in
part because I do not like being called a fascist or other rude terms
just because I work in a university, and partly because I have never
seen any message worth decoding from it.

Subject: [Csnd] Zak Mystery

Hi all,
While trying to construct an elaborate real-time system using the Zak=20
opcodes 'ala Has Mikelson, I noticed that when for instance sending a=20
pluck string sound to a chorus to an out, that the sound was cut off=20
prematurely. I also could not plays chords. Do the Zak channels only=20
handle one note/signal at a time?=20
To play a chord do I need to send each note to a seperate channel? Do=20
I need to set a hardware/software buffer to hold more signal? Any=20
help would be greatly appreciated.
	Thanks,
Ken Locarnini=20

Dear people on both side on the divide:

First of all to start with a quote
from our Antiorp herself:
"would like to inform
have since retracted
`fascist or other rude terms`"

That's very mild-mannered and generous of you Netochka;
however:

> In general [the posts] are intriguing, sometimes insulting, but always
> entertaining.

So what if they are? That's not the point!
-Why not?

Perhaps you are (1) new to the internet and this is your (2) first exposure to
internet mailing lists.
-(1) I am not.
 (2) What makes you so sure about this? Maybe this kind of presumptuous
ignorarance is typical of what gets a person like Antiorp so
pissed off! I wonder if she is really to blame...

Mailing lists are usually for discussion of a particular topic.
-Maybe that is the case in your way of perceiving things.

For example, this list is for the purpose of sharing information,
questions,etc,
about the Csound software synthesis program.
-On the the other hand sometimes adequate information can move beyond the
scope of solely belonging to the mentioned platform (in this case the
venerable
Csound) and move into the realm of creativity of the modern digital age,
which
our dear friend Antiorp/f!fo/Integer/etc/etc has understood and grasped much
better, as far as I am concerned, then many can evisage in their wildest
 dreams!

However:

>I think we can live with 0+1 nonconformist life form. (Job van Zuijlen)
>End of discussion. Kill filter re-applied.
-Both remarks display a wisdom I would like to encourage....

All in all,
friendly greetings
Avs

Hi,

You need to use zawm for chords and then later clear the channel with a zacl
so it does not blow up.

Which init error?
If they are AIFF files you should use zero for the
soundfile format; it will be read from the header.
Also, try removing the initial path separators in your
f-statements, and (perhaps) try using the backslash separator.
So,

f1 0 0 1 "Bosendorfer\BOSENa0.aif" 0 0 0

would be the model. Not sure if it makes much difference.

Subject: [Csnd] Zak Solved

To Whomever cares,
I realized through experimentation that the Zak clearing opcodes zacl=20
zakl were not working in my orchestra. I thought it was a bug but it=20
turned out that the clearing opcodes needed to be the last instrument=20
in the orchestra! Is this a bug?

Are we making music yet,

zacl and zkcl clear a range of "a" and "k" rate zak variables
respectively. What you do with them is up to you.

If you are using zak variables as mixing points - adding multiple
values to them - then the typical idea is to get the total after you
have finished adding things in, do something useful with that total,
and then set the zak values to zero, ready for the next run of the
instruments.

Instruments are run in their numeric order. (One handy thing is giving
the same instrument multiple instument numbers, so by using various
numbers in the score, you can control when it is executed.)

I use the highest numbered instrument and make it run for the duration
of the piece. That instrument does the final mix and audio out work,
and then uses zacl and zkcl to clear those zak variables I am using as
mixing points.

There probably should be a note added to the manual to explain this.

- Robin

Dear people on both side on the divide:

First of all to start with a quote
from our Antiorp herself:
"would like to inform
have since retracted
`fascist or other rude terms`"

That's very mild-mannered and generous of you Netochka;

Avs
