Xerox PARC focuses on multimedia as a tool to help people connect
to one another. The members of PARC's Jupiter project
are developing
a collaborative multimedia environment, in which a
simple scripting
language lets any user create dynamic objects and
virtual rooms for
interaction. Jupiter sends 50 or more simultaneous
video and audio
connections to every desktop, creating the atmosphere
of the virtual
coffeepot. ("Around the coffeepot" has been
identified by our
anthropologists as the most creative place in an office.)
