| Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help with this.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to create an instrument
that will give me a specific output waveform. For example
something like the following (in ascii "graphics", this will
probably look awful if it's not displayed with a courier font):
_________
| |
| |
| |
| |____________________________________
time: 0 1us (remaining 0 to 2ms)
or perhaps more generally (amplitude of 1):
_________ _______
| | / \
| | / \
| | / \
| |_____/ \_________
| | | | | | |
time: t0 t1 t2 t3 t4 t5 t6
I want to send out one of these (above waveforms) repeatedly every,
say, X milliseconds. I'm trying to model a hardware sound sound
generator that would do this.
Is there an easy way to do this in a csound orchestra? Or does anybody
have a good idea of how to approach this?
Part of the problem appears to be the mapping of time against table
locations, when trying to specify this in a function statement with
a gen7. I've also looked at phasor, but I don't think that will do
it either.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Cheers,
Paul

Hello everybody,
I am Olivier Pasquet, on this list since quite a lot already.
I am currently attending a 2-year Master of Arts in electroacoustic music at
Anglia in Cambridge.
I am looking for a PhD for next academic year anywhere around the World. Its
subject could be about composition, computer music, aesthetics or new media...
I am particularly interested in a kind of general updated harmony of the
world. This looks maybe stupid but it could open a wide range of new ideas.
You can find more information about myself and my CV at:

Yours sincerely,
Olivier Pasquet.

Yes and no. I run a digest list which does just that which you ask.
It does however have teh side effect that you would not be able to
post messages to the group, other than through a third party such as
myself

I finally have. And it works. :)
Now, for those who are interested, I had time to do one benchmark. I
have seen a message posted on this list with someone asking for
benchmarks. I can't remember who it was but I remember that he/she
used Xanadu.orc &.sco. Maybe I'm wrong.
Anyways I did my benchmark on that particular orc&sco (available on
ftp://ftp.musique.umontreal.ca/pub/mirrors/dream/documentation/orchestras+scores/instruments/kung.0/).
So here's a little result:
PowerPC 7200/120, 48Mb of RAM:
xanadu generation time on:
MacOS 8.0 - 8'24"
MkLinux - 6'28"
cheers.
Mike

For members of this group who have accessed or will access the html Csound
Reference Manual and/or my "Eastman Csound Tutorial" from the Eastman Computer
Music Center web site:
(1) We now have installed version 3.481b (replacing version 3.46) of the
Csound Reference Manual at
http://www.esm.rochester.edu/onlinedocs/Csound/Title.html
(2) We also have installed a substantially revised and expanded version of the
"Eastman Csound Tutorial," now current through version 3.48 and with new
cross-reference links to the 3.48 Reference Manual. The URL is unchanged:
http://www.esm.rochester.edu/onlinedocs/allan.cs/
Eventually, streaming RealAudio downloading of the orc/sco soundfile examples
in this tutorial will be added.
The ECMC site currently is undergoing undergoing a makeover that we hope will
make these pages more easily negociated and more useful to our visitors as
well as to in-house users. Eventually, a cross-platform shareware version
of Aleck Brinkman's "score11," and many of my Eastman Csound Library utilities
and instrument algorithms, will be made available at this site.
We welcome your comments and suggestions to

That was me. Thanks for the benchmark, I'll include it on my page.
http://members.tripod.com/~slinkP/pw_linux/csbench.html
One question: Which version of xanadu did you run? There's several. I've
been collecting benchmarks for both Xanadu44.orc and Xanadu08.orc, both
using Xanadus.sco.

I was wondering if anyone on the list has had success with installing
and running the new Silence Beta without Symantec Visual Cafe? I would like
to know the what and the how if possible. Much thanks,
Ken Locarnini
