Yeah! I think that often in so called emotional music(romantic/folk) the
emotions that the composer likes to imagine he's expressing are different
from the ones he is actual expresses, which can be as vulgar as ego,
vanity, just a need to sell themselves. Not that I'm saying that those
style's of music are bad, just that the real emotions (yeak! can't believe
I wrote that) come through accidentally/unintentionally and can't be
forced, the emotions that come through are in spite of the composers
efforts not because of them. I guy who goes by the name of Photek once said
in an interview something like, "I try to make my music as cold and
unemotional as possible, yet I think my music has an emotion, I don't
really no what it is". I think it of as sort of melancholy, not depression
or deep sadness, sort of like sadness with out any sense of frustration. I
guess its about sentimentality excepts I extremely sensitive to the
slightest sense sentimentality.

Here in Tenerife (an island to the NW of Africa) we have a oil tank that
was donated by the oil company to the government. It has 50 meters of
diameter and a reverb time of 17 seconds. It is being used as a place to
present contemporary stuff. Last time I was there a man with a tuba was
doing nice polyphony (there were 7 dancers also).
=46or those interested take a Delta Airlines 350$ flight to Madrid from New
York. Stay there a day or two to see El Prado Museum and then come to
Tenerife. I=B4ll be in the airport to pick you up ;)
P.S. Seriously, if anyone has a good idea for this tank I can provide the
name and address for the person in charge of this wonder.

Though the topic of emotions and music, and how they are best expressed is
both interesting and valuable, I would much prefer a separate list for its
discussion.
Anyone know of an appropriate list for such topics?
Thanks, and please put your replies before quoting this.

Most of these threads run their course pretty quickly (perhaps this one
already has!); and none has really developed to the point where a fresh list
might be created. For me, it's all part of the rich tapestry.

PostScript and ASCII are experimental. They contain life-threatening errors and

Maybe a newsgroup would be more interesting for this.
Or maybe not.
One thing is true, is that there doesn't seem to be a general computer
music list. This csound list certainly gets a lot of discussion about
things other than csound, even other software synthesis platforms.
Ordinarilly I would be complaining about this, but at the moment
I don't think there's a more general alternative.

I'm not making it up. I live in a semi-industrial neighborhood of
Brooklyn, NY. I wouldn't call the basement a "sonic paradise"-- it
doubles as my band's practice space, and it's a bit on the live side for
that, especially in the low end. It's tolerable, though, and the reason
we haven't done anything to the tanks is that they sound really
interesting both as reverb devices (you can crank open a hatch at one
end and stick mics INSIDE it!) and as percussion instruments.
Lonnnnggggggg decay time...
We've already played on them and sung into them and so forth, recorded
some things. It's just that this thread about convolution and impulse
responses got me wondering if I could, so to speak, take them with me
when we inevitably move out. :)

Well, whatever the limitations of standard MIDI are, I feel that it suits
my personal needs. If a new standard emerges within a few years, then so
be it, but if it doesn't, I'm happy with MIDI. On that note, I'd like to
ask some questions pertaining to Csound and MIDI.
If I am using the MIDI commands in Csound to trigger my instruments in
real time with a MIDI controller (Roland GI10 a/d converter in conjunction
with a GK2A guitar pickup), I need a powerful computer, right? Does
anybody have experience with PC's? I thought about getting a Mac G3 300,
but I'm afraid the realities of my financial situation won't allow that.
I think I may get a Pentium II 300, 64 RAM. Should this be adequate for
what I've described? I've experimented on a Mac 6500 (which is
ssllloooww) and an 8500, which did okay for simple stuff but might not be
good for really cool stuff. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ahoy !
Would it be possible for someone to put together a dictionary/thesaurus
of all Csound abbrevations/mnemonics ?
Just a simple list would be great, like "oscil = oscillator".It can be
migraine inducing looking at 'words' like
envlpx,noctdft,ifxdbak,isizea,garvbsig,poscil.
Orwellian!
I believe it would be of immense help to newbies and even some
veterans.I,for one,would be very grateful.
--------------------------------
About =cw4t7abs,I find those messages more than annoying, but he/her/it
appears to say some interesting things, from what I sometimes decipher. To
each his/her/it's own. There's room for all sorts. One of the nice things
about today's world is that ,unlike Van Gogh's time, eccentrics don't
HAVE to go insane and kill themselves.
Cheers,
Drew
