Doubles -> Int

SubjectDoubles -> Int
Hello again!

I got two answers about the Doubles -> Int question, both a bit different.

I ask again:

If IN is a signal from -1.0 to 1.0 inclusive, is this the best way to
convert it to integer:

out = floor(in*127.99999);

This will add a DC of 0.5, but that wouldn't be audible?
As floor() will add 1 bit of noise itself, it wouldn't be neccessary to add
noise before rounding?

If you really can't have 0.5 DC, then one should do like this?
out = (int)(int*127.4999999+0.5);

/ Anders

(Sorry for the extremely bad english! I'm reallly tired!!)

Hi all,
    I'm in the process of migrating out of Windoze and was wondering if
there are any help pages on setting up Linux for Csound? Everything seems
geared for Win?!  Thanks,
Ken Locarnini

Try the following file:

ftp://ftp.maths.bath.ac.uk/pub/dream/newest/Csound.tar.gz

this contains the source code of Csound for unix systems (incl. linux)

this patch contains some improvements and allows better real-time performance
(it is for version 3.58, may work with other versions too) on Linux systems

hello,

it is not done with vocoder, it is speech synthesis. They used the Texas
Instruments Speak&Spell, a pocket calculator with speechsynthesizer and some
games. The digital sounds of the game are included into the song
pocketcalculator/Taschenrechner. The Florian Schneider - dummy hold it in his
hands on one of the pictures of the cover.

Try to search a 'bad' sounding speechsynthesizer program for your computer,
there are lot of free ones, or try:

Use the Montreal mirror.

  ftp://ftp.musique.umontreal.ca/pub/mirrors/dream/platforms/unix/Linux/

I wanted to say, but stuff there seems old. (3.50 binary, 3.48 source)

Don't know if the source distro in
  ftp://ftp.musique.umontreal.ca/pub/mirrors/dream/newest/
    file csound_src.zip
will help you.

I'm trying to use DAM opcode:

aout dam ain, kthreshold, icomp1, icomp2, rtime, ftime

>kthreshold: Sound level acting as a threshold. Can be changed at ktime (e.g.
for ducking)

But I can't find any information about kthreshold unit.
Is it in dB(-80-0), linear(0-1) or 16 bits(0-32768)

I did several tests but kthreshold seems out of range.

Any info welcome.

The Speak & Spell (came out in about 1978) speech synthesis was done with
LPC. Searching http://www.ti.com for "speak and spell" found 15 documents.

As other people have pointed out, the most accurate way of producing this sound
would be through one of the speech synthesis programs you can download, or
perhaps using an actual Speak 'N' Spell. Try using a number of different speech
programs, as this would be a good way of generating the different characters
heard on songs such as "Numbers."

If you wish to modify vocal samples, the most accurate way of reproducing this
sound would be linear predictive coding. Do an LPC analysis of the speech
samples, then use the analysis to filter a buzz or gbuzz waveform. LPC can sound
very robotic, which is often a detriment, but would be a good thing in emulating
the voices on this Kraftwerk album. Be sure to start off with clean, dry vocal
samples, without any reverb, spoken slowly and clearly (i.e. talk like a robot),
in order to get the best analysis.

Hello list!

Is there a program for Windows that can generate score files (most techno
oriented) like sequencers or trackers do. Writing a 5 minutes song using
notepad takes weeks of hard work. I have tried using Exel (!)...

Have a nice day,

  there is also a fairly interesting free speech synth avialable at:

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/sayit.htm

  there are also quite a few other handly little apps for music and sound,
and much more.
