When I wrote the MIDI->Csound translation for Rosegarden it was
essentially a straight translation, and I suppose it could be made
into a stand alone program with not much hacking. The program did not
take very long to write so it is either incomplete or the proces is
trivial.

Another suggestion / wish:
Couldn't this be implemented as a printks i-time call?
It may be useful to change that opcode to run also at i-time.
Hopefully this means just repacking the arguments into
whatever struct printks uses and calling its k-rate function.

The resulting opcode might be called just "prints" - this
would be consistent with current naming of related ugens.
Like
    prints "txtstring", ival1, ival2, ival3, ival4

(The printks argument "itime" would be set to zero, and
the i-rate arguments are passed to the "kval":s).

I haven't looked at this, so it's entirely up to you if
you want to check up on it - just a suggestion.

Regards,

	re

The online HTML manual has been modified to make it easier to access the
non-frames version, and to switch between the two, if necessary.

The non-frames version of the online manual may be reached at:

   http://www.geocities.com/~csoundmanual/hypertext/manual2.htm

The regular, frames version, is still available at:

   http://www.geocities.com/~csoundmanual/hypertext/manual.htm

Enjoy.

Those of u who've been looking into mp3 may want to take a peek at Yamaha's
SoundVQ technology. This is great stuff. The quality is comparable to MP3,
but the file size is half that of MP3, it's about 1/20th compared to MP3's
1/10th. The encoder is free to download, though limited to 90 days after
which u need to get a new one.

Downside : it takes ages to encode. About 20 mins for a 38.7 MB (3:49 mins
long) stereo AIFF file on my 233MHz G3 PowerMac.

Personally I think MP3 file size is still too large for the average internet
user with ye olde 28.8 or 33.6 modem in countries with shall we say,
unfortunate telephone networks.

After much debate (mostly with myself), I decided on frames for one reason:
it makes the best use of the "hyper" in hypertext. Using the left hand
"Contents" page, any opcode is only one click (with some scrolling) away
from any other opcode. Using the non-frames version, three clicks are
normally required to get from one opcode to another. You cannot go directly.

Alternatively, you could enter the name of the contents file directly, into
your browser. Just keep in mind the path, because not all the files are in
the same directory. BTW, there approximately 240 HTML files in the manual.
That saves two clicks at the expense of some typing.

It is similar in syntax. But you don't read it directly, it can be
converted to html, dvi, ps, pdf, tex, text etc. It would be quite a lot of
work to convert the manual to sgml, so it might not be a good idea.

Hello All,

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate having the manual in all
it's forms. The html version is really great, I always have it minimized
when I am composing so it is easy to get at when needed, which is a lot. I
prefer the frames version for it's ease of navigation. I downloaded it from
here http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Studio/5746/.
Thanks to all involved for all the hard work involved in it's upkeep.

Michael

I can't get a copy of V3.58/3.59 HTML file. Does this mean I have to

David, if you are reading this, I really need this file for Csound.
