Ok, so where is a good reference to learn more about pthreads? Win32
itself is chock-full of threads, fibers and probably whole wardrobes, so
how difficult can it be to implement them compatibly under Win32?

Subject: [Csnd] 1999 SEAMUS AudioClip Web Concert
SEAMUS, the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, is
proud to announce the Third Annual AudioClip Web Concert. The concert of
short ea compositions (< 2 minutes) is available for listening at any time
during the month of November from the SEAMUS AudioClip web site
(http://seamus.lsu.edu/audioclips/).
The concert requires the use of RealPlayer (v5 or G2). The audio quality
depends on your internet connection: 28k modems deliver FM-quality stereo,
56k modems are better, cable modems or T1 deliver almost CD-quality stereo.
The AudioClip Web Concert is part of EAMusicWeek, an international
celebration of electro-acoustic music coordinated by SEAMUS
(http://seamus.lsu.edu/eamusicweek). Check our web site for events
happening near you.
Happy listening,
Stephen David Beck
President, SEAMUS

I think the cygwin tools (http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin/) probably
would make the port to windows quite possible. These include a pthreads
implementation for win32, allow autoconf to work, and include the egcs
compiler. Additionally, the portable audio realtime library project
(the url escapes me at the moment, the mailing list request address
is portal-request@tomy.net), would allow an abstraction for audio I/O.
And of course, gtk+ has been ported to win32 also.
I would volunteer to do this work and make binaries available, but
with year-end deadlines my regular job is eating up all my available
time. I may be able to get to it after December. I can make myself
available for help if anyone wants to attempt it.

And of course, gtk+ has been ported to win32 also.
I would volunteer to do this work and make binaries available, but
with year-end deadlines my regular job is eating up all my available
time. I may be able to get to it after December. I can make myself
available for help if anyone wants to attempt it.

Subject: [Csnd] score.srt
It is easy to make Csound use a temporary file that is deleted at the
end instead of score.srt for the sorted score -- in fact I have that
running on Linux -- but I am worried that this will make the sorted
score unavailable, and I suspect that people read it. Any thoughts?
I could I support grab yet another command line option to keep it, but
that seems rather heavy handed.
Do you use the sorted score, and do you want to maintain it as the
end of the run?

Subject: [Csnd] Line events
reading the code there is a pair of lines in musmon.c
if (!O.Linein) { /* *************** */
if (!(scfp = fopen(O.playscore, "r")))
dies(Str(X_649,"cannot reopen %s"), O.playscore);
}
so if there are line events it does not open the sorted score file.
The comment suggests that this was a modification from someone else.
The ChangeLog says
Mon Feb 12 08:53:29 1996 John Fitch
* musmon.c (musmon): Added guard to opening O.playscore as at
least Linux barfs (thabks to Richard Furse).
so it was suggested my a Linux user before I had a Linux machine. Are
you now saying that this is unnecessary, or that one should guard this
in a different way?
How about this?
if (!(scfp = fopen(O.playscore, "r"))) {
if (!O.Linein)
dies(Str(X_649,"cannot reopen %s"), O.playscore);
}
Then only dies if no Line events and no score.

Subject: [Csnd] "FLOATING ROOTS" web
BUYO-BUYO-IGOR@ElectricLightHeads writing
during the preparation 4 the live perfomance @tokyo in FEB8th 2k..
http://people.goplay.com/webdj/elh.html
came up with the idea to
link our web-sites in a micro-harmonic-oriented way
would like to call it a:
"FLOATING ROOTS" web
and now have
4 csound "orc&sco" people
http://come.to/my-princess
and
4 self-algo-comp-app people & files-as-a-result contribution
http://kiss.to/my-head
on the net
What I mean by these are ... I'm asking 4 you talented people to contribute your
overtone(or maybe fractal is also nice)-oriented-files
related to the Hz-structure mentioned on my ROOT site ... and that'll make us HD-DJ
excellent(or better than "done by myself" preparation) things at the performance..
And if I could prepare or suggest an open co-linking-oriented syetem
as the seed of the microtuning-oriented-web ...
Yes I'm not the only one who "could do that performance"..
and MY site doesn't always have to be the ROOT..
If this site-linking-system become mature...
ROOTs will FLOAT on the net as a WEB
and people can CHOOSE their own "root & overtones" things
and loop them together os improvise with their samplers
and spend a happy minimal life..
BUT
as U might have guessed..
both beginning sites are at this moment "EMPTY"
I myself will gradually upload my thangs over there
---yes I will ... because I'll have to prepare 4 the performance anyway---
Please cantribute something 4 the web
4 example
TXTs of "useful csound orc&sco"+"what kind of harmonic structure it creates"+"how
2 handle the parameters" are also welcome!!
THANX
PS.
excuse me John!
my relationship with Mr.Motohashi about the localizing project
resulted as a quarrel between us and I've just shut down the "co-localizing-ml"..
I was inteded to translate error messages during my csound mastering process
related to above ... but my approach to the localization will become lazy..
if BUYO-BUYO-IGOR-friendly-localizer appears again..yes I think I can help him
from my interest...

Does anyone know of a good source for an introduction to 3d sound =
programming with stereo headphones? (not necessarily restricted to =
csound, although I will eventually be using csound as a primary tool) I =
am exploring 3d spatialization as a research and programming project =
assignment. =20
I followed the discussion a while back about 3d surround sound and =
ambisonics. However, do I understand correctly that ambisonics utilizes =
4 channel output? =20
Is anyone aware of the software "3d-Audio" produced by Climax =
Software Solutions? Essentially you give the program sound samples and =
specify head location and sample playback location, as well as =
animation, and room properties. It then calculates a stereo output file =
to be listened to in headphones with a somewhat realistic 3d spacial =
feel to the sounds as they move through the virtual space. This is the =
type of direction I am going, however I want to program the sound =
localization manually instead of specifying the sound positioning an =
movement to a third party software. =20
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. =20

Works greats. Runs smooth.
I'm planning on adding more as i find them.
BTW I now have an 8 Gigagbyte hard drive. Still running a P166.
My brother is using my old hard drive, a Quantum.
I love my new drive.
The move to the new drive was painless.
I had to get a new one as by next christmas, i will have a CD-RW.
May your higher power bless you.

ALSA drivers with Ensoniq AudioPCI or Trident 4Dwave should work
too-- I think. Can anyone confirm? (I don't have either card.)

I don't know if I'm understanding this correctly, but the score.srt is
reusable on subsequent executions so that the score doesn't need sorting
again, which is unneccessary if the content hasn't changed. I assume this is
also the case with .csd files?
Personally, I would elect to keep it as a default but include a flag to
override it if necessary.

Subject: Re: [Csnd] 3d sound in stereo headphones
You could also usefully join the sursound discussion list - information
is on Dave Malham's Ambisonics front page at York university:
http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/mustech/3d_audio/ambison.htm
I also have a small links page devoted to multi-channel and surround
sound from my home page (below).
Re Ambisonics - I ~can~ use a quad output (either for B-Format signals,
or a first-order horizontal decode - there is a Csound Score and
instrument available to demonsrate this somewhere (Bath server?).
However, it can also use many more, e.g a cube of eight speaker for full
3D periphony including height. Strictly speaking, audio presented on the
horizontal plane is 2D, "3D" should be reserved for representations
including height. However, most manufactures and developers are tending
to use the term 3D for just horizontal presentation!

I also meant to include:
A primary source text for 3d audio, especially over headphones, is:
