Hmmm - I'd have to disagree. I've tried blowing those up and they don't
sound anything like the real thing. Disappointing, but true.

Slightly more seriously - don't forget that those Hollywood explosions are
processed to death with compression, EQ, aural exciters, and all of that
kind of stuff. Getting something similar out of Csound would take a long
time. The easy way to do it would be to use a sample CD or two, hire an
hour in a decent studio, layer some pitch shifted and processed samples and
then splice the result wherever it's supposed to go in the finished piece.
Which is pretty much how the real thing is done, in fact...

The best result I ever got was to detonate three Stage Maroons in the
middle of a playing field, surrounded on three sides by houses. The
initial BANG is very loud, but is then followed by three beautiful
echoes from the houses; there's an almost reverse-reverb effect on the
echoes as well. Do it at night to minimise background noise. You may
also need to substitute mains voltage for the 9V battery which normally
fires the maroons, due to the long cable runs.

As a bonus, you also get a nice light show after the experiment, as many
bedroom lights come on in a nice star-field effect around the field.

A subsequent low profile is reccommended....;)

Sometimes the actual event just dosn't record well. I remember reading
an interview
with the creators of the game "Mist." They said they really had a hard
time coming up with the
sound of fire in a fireplace. The real thing just didn't work. Finally
they found that a recording
of a car rolling over gravel in a parking lot worked perfectly...
