This is probably completely off topic but I'm struggling to find the right
newsgroup/mailing list for my questions.
I'm the programmer of a granular soft synth (driven by cellular automata).
We are starting to generate interest in the commercial sector and we are
close to bundling the programme 'as is' with a new soundcard. We have been
seeking a full publishing deal with various software companies, but it is
generally felt that the programme needs some improvements in key areas.
The most important area is that of real-time midi control (to turn it into a
mono-synth). At the moment there is a real-time prototyper that helps work
out your sound, before rendering it to disk and using it in a sequencer or
whatever programme you wish. The real-time synthesiser core is undergoing a
major overhaul and I would like to get adivce on this so it will be as good
as possible.
On the PC I am going to offer DirectX as well as MME. On the PowerMac I'm
currently using the Sound Manager (with services such as SndPlayDoubleBuff)
and want to know if there are other, better, methods.
I would like to know of other people's methodologies of streaming audio at
the same time synthesising the source. For example I would be interested in
the use of multi-threading, getting right buffer sizes, etc...
If anyone knows of any discussion forums, documents or books that would
pertain to this, I would be extremely grateful.
Sorry for the long waffly message.
Thanks

Hello csounders,
I'm interested in using csound in real-time. I'm running on a PPC
7200/120 and the recent version with real-time in/out works quite
fine. I was going to use real-time MIDI control but I run into a
little problem: each instrument reads all note-on/off messages in all
the channels. And I don't seem to have apossibility of separating the
channels.
The reason I would like to do it is that I'm controlling it with a
Roland GR-50 guitar synth and I'm capable of sending each string on a
different MIDI channel. Anyone ever dealt with a similar issue?
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

In the 3.48 release notes, the example of the GEN28 function statement is
f1 0 0 "move"
Is this a deviation from the standard syntax? Should it be?
f1 0 0 28 "move"

I've just been trying to use the MIDI to C utility for the first time in a
quite a while, and it's crashing my Mac. Has anyone been using this app
successfully with 8.1? Are there any more recent translation
programs for PPC anywhere?
Thanks,

midi->C
or
midi->Csound??
in case there is no current midi->csound avail,
is it possible to just use the midi opcodes inside of csound
instead?

hmmm - might be a bug - however none of us have midi gear
at the moment so its kind of hard to test..
didnt it used to be channel# = instr #.
but now there is the "massign" opcode to assign midi channels
to instr#
-but i think Richard Boulanger was saying its not working??

Found my real problem, was able to get space to work, and answered my own
question. Although the notes on 3.48 are slightly confusing on this point,
the f statement should read just like any other:
f1 0 0 28 "move"
My apologies for the unnecessary original message.

In the 3.48 release notes, the example of the GEN28 function statement is
f1 0 0 "move"
Is this a deviation from the standard syntax? Should it be?
f1 0 0 28 "move"
Thank you.

A question: Does anyone know of a CSound Environment/Compiler for Win98?
CSounder will not run on my Win98 machine ... Perhaps, if there are
none specifically *FOR* win98, maybe someone has run one successfully under
Win98?
If so, please let me know! Thanks.

It is probably somewhat off-topic for this group (though the use of DirectSound
for low-latency MIDI control isn't - it is used in Gabriel Maldonado's version
of Csound, for example). You might like to try the music-dsp group, which has
also discussed this issue fairly recently.

PS: I would like to try a beta version of your software please!

Well, Win98 should be able to run all Win95 applications, including Visual C++.
The only problem can be if the application has code to test for the operating
system (eg to avoid NT, 16bit windows, or whatever), and the test fails under
Win98. I had exactly this test in a CDP program, and had to take the test out so
it would run under Win98.

I have made an simple editor for csound. It has two editors window for
orchestra/score so you
don't have to start notepad or another editor. It can run csound, play the
resulting soundfile or
start a soundeditor.
If you're running a console version of csound it has a console window so you
can see the
results after csound has finished. If you're running winsound that is not
necessary though.
The program runs on win95/98 and NT. DirectX maybe necessary because of the
soundplayer.
