The AIFF header reader outputs that message about name, while the WAV
one did not. In the interests of consistency I have adjusted the
wavReadHeader function to be similar, and at the same time made the
printing deal with 1,2,4,6 and 8 channel files

As there was a serious defficency in pow I am placing my 3.492 system
on teh server today. Ther are
   Csound.tar.gz Unix style sources
   csound_src.zip PC style sources

   SGI/csound Silicon Graphics Irix5.3
   CSLinux.bin.tgz Linux/ELF binary
   csound_new.zip DOS
   csound_win.zip Window95 etc
   csound_con.zip Windows console mode
   csound_68k.Hqx Mac 68K
csound_881.Hqx Mac 68K with 881 fpt (not tested)

and if I can manage it also
    csound.sit.Hqx Mac sources

For PowerMac use Matt Ingalls' version. Solaris version will follow
if I have time; my Atari still will not boot

There are release notes as well; shortened form follows
==John ff
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Notes for 3.492
=======================

These are the release notes for version 3.492, which will eventually
becone 3.50

Bug Fixes
---------

Pow now available again.
Internal changes to parser to make fewer calls to strcmp

Language Changes
----------------

hetro had a wrong constant which would give rise to a little noise.

If the incorrect out opcode is used it now attempts to correct to the
correct one, which is not necessarily correct.

new names dumpk rather than kdump introduced.

kon renamed midion

kfilter2 renamed filter2 (still not sure it works though)

The opcodes rand randi and randh take an additional, optional argument
which if non zero gives a 31bit random nuber rather than the 16bit one.

Opcode Fixes
------------

sndwarp had bugs on Linux

ramnd, randh and randi now take an additional operand, which if
non-zero use a better randon number generator

bug in ntrpol fixed

MIDI on Linux may work.

New Opcodes
-----------

schedule -- schedule an instrument event

schedwhen -- conditional scheduling

lfo -- Low Frequency Oscilator with 6 shapes

midion2 -- MIDI turnon (G.Maldonado)

pctrlinit -- (G.Maldonado)

dpctrlinit -- (G.Maldonado)

midiin -- (G.Maldonado)

midiout -- (G.Maldonado)

nrpn -- (G.Maldonado)

cpstmid -- (G.Maldonado)

Sergey,
The filename is not vac*.zip but rather (if i remember correctly)
vac101.zip. Try ftp-ing to the directory- just leave out the filename. I
also had trouble getting through to this site, but eventually I got the
download. Have n't tried installing the software yet...

Keep trying!

ok-
3.492beta for powermac is on the ftp. i also put up the sources for both
perf and the front end -- not pretty code, especially the front end - has code
from handfuls of people all who were learning mac programming (me esp.).

WARNING: pvoc/hetro seem to be broken (on last few mac versions only -- which
is weird since it is exact same code as other platforms) -- one of reasons i put
source up now - hopefully someone can fix this, as im not familiar with the code
might take some
time...

please feel free to make changes/improvements -- i am volunteering to be
the "build engineer" for the time being, so send me all your code so we dont
have
bunch of different versions floating around.

in my opinion, the mac ppc csound is getting up to the point that further
platform-specific development/maintanance should be done with a complete
rewrite...
