On MacOS Max/MSP will do with multi channel files too.
On UNIX snd will play any number of channels and its free. But there is n=
o
multichannel card which is supported by Linux, so far I know...

That line is long, and so your mail client put newlines in the message
for you (idiot programs!). So you have to join the lines in the multitap
statement together before the parser can get through it.

If you go to http://www.haint.com/sounds, you can download the orchestra without
any email formatting. If you still have an error, just delete any line breaks in
the multitap line of the orchestra.

The Hoontech 4Dwave has four output channels, and is supported by ALSA,
though I don't know if they've sorted out bypassing the reverb for the
"rear" channels yet.
