Hi,
bug report for Mills Csound.ppc 0.3.1b0:
Using a + in the p2 field of a score file sets a wrong length for the note
(very large!!!). I checked it with the physmodl.orc/sco of Hans Mikelson
slightly modified by me. I do not attach it, because it also happens with
tutorial 11 which is part of the Csound.ppc 0.3.1 distribution after
setting the sr= 22050, kr=1050 ans ksmps=21. Replacing the + by the correct
number works. You can see the much too large stop time when you kill the
perf...
Tis problem did not appear in the last official release. (I can remember
that I compiled the files by Hans Mikelson without problems...)

I'm forwarding this message from the people at Digitool. I'm a complete
bunny as far as Lisp is concerned, so I would not be making an informed
choice. Not being able to "save application" seems pretty useless though.
Anyone?
Cheers

Arne (& csound-list):
The demo disablement of "Save Application" means to run CommonMusic,
or CommonLispMusic, etc., one would have to load all binairies compiled
from the source *every time* you wish to use those packages. This can
take a few mins. (*understatement*).
The nice thing about full Lisp implementations is that one can save an entire
image of the current running lisp image: In other words, the saved image
can contain all the packages you normally work with.
No "re-loading" (think of dll's/.so files: the code is initally compiled,
then dynamically "linked in"). This is a very nice thing, if, like me
one is impatient, and wants to get to composing in the few hours I can
devote these days to music. Not sitting waiting for code to be linked in.
Perhaps Tobias Kunze can fill us in on how long it takes to load an enitre
CommonMusic image in MCL.
The demo might be a great deal for learning/checking out CommonLisp.
I certainly have enjoyed what I've seen of CommonMusic in MCL (meaning the
GraphicUserInterface it provides, although I don't know how much use it is
once one becomes proficient at the base language and provided classes.)
Good luck,
and thanks for the info, Arne!

I concur:
I have run similar tests on my l scores with the same results. If the "+"
in the p2 field(s) is replaced with the corresponding numerical
duration(s), then the audio file perfs correctly. Otherwise it simply chugs
along happily until the disk volume fills up. Unfortunately, I have deleted
my previous versions of csound.ppc and perf.ppc. Is there a way I can get
hold of them?

| load an enitre CommonMusic image in MCL.
i can. Typically, creating an image is a two-step process. The
first pass compiles and loads all the files in a particular order.
Since compilation creates a lot of temporary garbage in the symbol
tables, you then want to quit your lisp and, in a second pass,
simply load the compiled files and dump the new application (a double-clickable
lisp memory image). Currently, there is no way to just
load source files (without compiling them), although that could be
done easily. Since MCL compiles *everything* it evaluates anyway, this
would be (except for the junk it creates) identical to an image that
has been built from binaries. However, it takes much longer to build.
Bottom line, i would say you *want* the file compiler.
On a PPC, loading the binaries is *very* fast (~1 min or less), but
compiling (the first pass) may take up to 5 or 8 minutes, depending
on your memory situation.

I also use "play" (from sox 12.12) and I just compiled xwave (0.6) to look
at the file (linux OS). There is definite "stuff" at the begining
of the file, but there is no ending click when using xwave to play back
the wav-file. This suggests that "play" is making the ending clicks,
which version are you using?

think Barry wrote them and there were in the sources he gave me.
