| I have the idea in mind to begin a sound-file archive
which may eventually be of great use to the users of
Csound and similar software.
I have established an FTP server with a considerable
amount of disk space devoted to this purpose.
I haven't a domain name as of yet, but the archive as it
stands in its infancy can be perused at:
ftp://198.176.199.20/pub
There is a directory under 'pub' called 'aiff' which
now contains a considerable number of samples that
are useful for synthesizing musical instruments.
They come from the standard Gravis archives, but are
reformatted and organized so as to be of interest
to Csound and like users.
The incoming directory may be used to transmit your
contributions of short samples which you might deem
appropriate for inclusion in the archive. I will look
them over and classify them as they come in. Please
maintain the sense that you are providing to the archive
some measure of what you are receiving from it.
The target submission will be a relatively short
sample, probably less than ten seconds in duration.
The bulk of entries will certainly be far shorter
than this. My aim is to provide archive users with
a broad pallet of waveforms from which to draw on
in order to sculpt more complex sounds with the aid
of software such as Csound and others. I am really
looking for a sample rate of at least 44100Hz, but a
clean sounding 22050 might be worthy of inclusion.
A sample rate less than this is most likely outside
the scope of the intention of the archive.
I hope that the archive will eventually be rich with
instrumental samples, but my personal desire is to
build an organized library of natural sounds; sounds
that might be experienced from day to day, whether in
the wilderness, the city or the home.
