More than two channels

SubjectMore than two channels
Hello,

What is the cheapest way to get quad audio? I've seen some Technics
recievers which are rated as "Dolby Digital Ready" which seems to mean they
take 6 channels in and put out 6 channels. They actually require a
separate decoder to decode Dolby Digital but I think they would be able to
take any other multi-channel source like from a computer board capable of
putting out 4 or more channels. Also if you buy one with a built in
decoder (ie. Pioneer) I suspect it can't handle multichannel input from a
standard source and it's more expensive too.

The other alternative I would have is to use my 4-track recorder but it
only records 2 tracks at one time although it can play out 4 tracks at
once. I could record the first two tracks, then rewind and record the next
two tracks and then play them all back at once. Which wouldn't be good
enough to catch phase relationships but might be ok for some panning stuff.

Bye,
Hans Mikelson

Hi,

I thought the package was more like $1000 which is a bit out of my price
range. But $170 I might be able to finagle... :) Of course Sharc/Csound
requires a computer to play and the Nord can be played without the computer.

	Hi,

I'm wondering if someone could point me to any
example instruments that use either lpread/reson
or lpread/freson? Also, if there is any additional
documentation on these beyond the csound.hlp file
I'd like to know where to find that too.

I tried to send this message last week but may have sent
it to the wrong address. At any rate, I don't seem to
have gotten any responses...so here goes again...

	thanks,

cheapest card that I know of is the gadget labs wave/4. It does full
duplex 4 (mono) channels, >90db s/n ratio. I got one for $270 (after
rebate)

It is. AD may have other development boards (SHARC-LITE perhaps?) That are
around the $170 figure, but this is not the Extended Csound board.

I am using Winsound (original and 3.47 beta versions) with Windows95, and
am trying to use GEN01 to import a soundfile. It's the amplitude envelope
for the endless gliss Shepard tone found in the ACCCI. The file is in
.wav format, 16-bit. Problem: I cannot import the file. No matter where
I put it, or what I call it, the compiler stops, claiming it can't find
the file. Is there some trick to importing sounds with Winsound?

Thanks in advance: Mark Ballora

Electroacoustic Music Lovers!

The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS)
presents the 1997 SEAMUS AudioClip Web Concert.

Fifteen works, of a VERY wide range of styles and aesthetics, all under
two minutes in length, by SEAMUS composers, for your listening pleasure
on the net. The concert will be available over the Internet from
November 1-20, 1997.

You can hear the AudioClip Web Concert at:

   http://comp.music.lsu.edu/seamus/audioclips/

To listen to the concert, you will need RealPlayer, a free streaming
audio application available for Macintosh, PC or Unix computers, and an
internet connection through an Internet Service Provider. Connections
which use 28k modems or slower will hear AM quality sounds in mono.
Connections at 56k or faster will hear FM quality stereo. If you use
RealPlayerPlus (not free), your 28k connection will also play in stereo
(see the audioclip web site for links to RealPlayer).

The SEAMUS AudioClip Web Concert is being presented as part of the first
ElectroAcoustic Music Week, an international celebration of electronic
and computer music organized by SEAMUS. EA Music Week (Nov 2-14, 1997)
is coordinating 27 concerts, lectures, radio broadcasts and panel
discussions through out the US, Canada and Argentina. The EA Music Week
web site contains a searchable database of all scheduled events.

You can find out more about EA Music Week at:

   http://comp.music.lsu.edu/seamus/eamusicweek/

or through SEAMUS On-Line

   http://comp.music.lsu.edu/seamus/

If you wish to be a part of next year's EA Music Week (November 8-14,
1998), contact Charles Mason (cmason@bsc.edu) or myself (sdbeck@lsu.edu).

Electroacoustically yours,
