SubjectPerf crash
Hi all,

I had a similar problem to Kathy's on my mac, and increasing the memory
requirement of perf in the Get Info window solved things. Just an idea..

So my questions are:
Why is it that pvoc files on different platforms aren't compatible? I use
Unix machines at school, and am trying to use pvoc files I made there on my
mac at home. The mac thinks they're invalid. Is it a header thing I might
change in Soundhack, or (probably) shall I just reanalyze on the mac?
Does anyone know of a mac Utility which lets you examine the bin values
(RK: like pvlook) of pvoc files? Thanks.

The Mr. Tweaky app at ftp.mills.edu/ccm/csound.ppc will do this.

Hi,

I tried posting some new reverbs to the list but they have not come through
yet (maybe they were to big) so I put them at my web site:

http://www.werewolf.net/~hljmm/csound/verb.orc
http://www.werewolf.net/~hljmm/csound/verb.sco

Enjoy,
Hans Mikelson

Hi,

I took one of my reverbs and turned it into a waveguide instrument which
sounds somewhat like a bowed string.

Good Luck,

i assume you are using powermac csound.
batch files are just text files-use any text editor.

or just change settings in the interface itself.

I don't think there has ever been any 'standard' for pvoc files, at least as far
as the header is concerned. In CDP we use WAV and AIF, with a lot of extra
information put in proprietary chunks. Unix machines may use the snd format, or
no header at all, or IRCAM. Word ordering will also be machine-specific. So the
chances of a given pvoc file being portable are fairly slim.

However, if you know the pvoc parameters which created the file, and can hack
past the header (or lack of it), you should be able to recover the data, which
will always (as far as I know..) be interleaved amplitude/frequency for each
channel, for each successive anaylsis bin.

This is one of the reasons for the CNMAT SDIF initiative, which will eventually
provide a fully portable file format not only for pvoc data, but a lot else
besides.

BATch files are text files. You can create them using the commands found by
typing Help in a DOS window (assumes you installed the dos help with
Windows - i've heard recent versions don't do this by default).
There is one example halfway through my getting started html page, which you
can find at
http://hem.passagen.se/rasmuse/Csound.htm (the actual page is called PCinstal.htm)

Did you get Winsound? It's in the csound_win.zip file in directory "/newest" on the
Bath/Montreal servers.

Hi all,
I'm working on building some sampling orcs, and was wondering if someone
could explain how to implement a release/decay segment for a looping sample
for "x" number of seconds using Csound scoring format (not midi).
Thanks for any suggestions,
Ken Locarnini

What deriver trick? I don't understand. Normally each MIDI channel is
assigned to the sameinstrument number, if it is found. So if you want to
use, for example, MIDI chan 1 and 2, you must write an orchestra
containing instr1 and instr2.

Yes it is normal. Actually MIDI controllers above 90 are specialized in
other obscure function (I suppose to follow the General Standard, which
I don't like). I removed all the specialized code in DirectCsound 2.0 so
you should use all 127 controllers. The control #64 is still dedicated
to SUSTAIN PEDAL, so I strongly recommend to not use it for other
purposes.
