I think I have found the cause of the malfunction of madsr. All I
need is to find some way of testing it.

If that problem was resolved so long ago why is it not in the general
sources? It seems as if we are back to having multiple versions with
different behavious on different machines.

g'day all, excuse me if this has been covered before. Im wishing to extend
the PMAX value in csound. Currently its default is 150 (giving you 149
possible values in a table). I'm needing 800+ .
I am storing floating point numbers in a gen 2 table to transpose grains
in a fog instrument-
f20.00 0 1024.00 -2 1.03 1.05 1.07 1.08 1.06 1.09 1.09 1.15 ....
I tried setting PMAX to higher values in my cs.h file and recompiling
but this has not extended PMAX to anything higher than 150.:
sorting score ...
sread: instr pcount exceeds PMAX
sect 1 line 3
remainder of line flushed
... done
Is there another step involved or am I barking up the wrong tree?

One comparision between csound and SAOL is speed. Another is csound
is low-level assembly language like and SAOL is a high-level language.
Yet another is that there are years of experience and examples with
csound, and not so much with SAOL.
One might ne tempted to say SAOL is the future, csoudn is now.

Hello,
Sorry I made a mistake in my previous email: although and not althought!!!!
Programming CSound.
I am also trying to built some stupid opcodes (stolen Hidden Markov models and
a Chebichev filter). You can find explanation in the help file: *How to add
your own opcodes*. But it is not really straight foward. The source is
available on the "dream" CSound ftps as AllCSound.zip.
Maybe it is because I do not have Visual C++ or Code Warrior, I do not have
all the *.h files that are required to compile. I have spent ages trying to
find them on the internet but even of they have the same name, they do not
have the same contents.
=> Where could I find ALL the required files (libraries...)?
=> I said the source was in AllCSound.zip but I do not find the early opcodes
for instance. Are they somewhere in one of the files?
I hope you'll be more lucky than me. But I do not give up !!!
Olivier Pasquet.

That fault may be mine. In every version of the binaries and sources
that I have posted at Bath there have been various fixes for
Linux-specific problems. Ergo, they have always been available but
perhaps I should be faulted for not drawing your attention to them.
The CVS access goes a long way towards resolving this sort of problem.

This confuses me, and please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there
many versions already flying around, none of which are fully identical ?
I see your Winsound, GM's RTCsound, Michael Gogins' AXCSound and
jCsound, apparently different versions for the Macs, the CDP port, etc.
A Csound Linux developers group was formed expressly for the purpose of
creating an outstanding version for Linux, and that group would of
course like to see its amenable changes incorporated back into the
canonical sources. All of those changes are available via the CVS.
For those interested, here are some of the changes and enhancements
already made to Linux Csound:
vastly improved makefile structures (easier and more complete build)
adoption of 'configure' for site-specific accomodation
support for ALSA drivers (alternative to OSS/Free)
creation of libcsound.so for huge reduction of the csound memory
footprint
support for 64-bit Alpha machines
Linux-specific MIDI support
inclusion of Robin Whittle's improved random number generators
compiles under libc5 or glibc (libc6) systems
packages available in tgz, RPM, and DEB formats
distributions available in X/non-X binaries as well as full source
working on inclusion of autoconf and automake
working on improved low-level MIDI routines
I've probably forgotten a few items, and you may note that many of those
improvements are quite Linux-specific. However, it is our stated goal to
offer back to the canonical sources any improvements or bug-fixes that
may be of benefit to the larger community. I apologize if I have not
been as clear about that as I should be. I also urge you to consider
joining the Csound Linux/UNIX developers group, information concerning
which can be found right here:
http://www.ilogic.com.au/csound/
If you wish, you can contact Nicola directly concerning CVS access, but
information is also available from the AIMI Csound site:

It's not a permanent solution but I store floats in a soundfile (using a
separate program) and use table to read them if I REALLY need more than 150
p-values.

i would say this is the "prefered" solution! you can even create
the flt.pt. file within csound at times. Russell Pinkston's implementation
of Risset's endless glissando is a good example
on the other hand, if you have your own code externally creating control files,
it would be nice to have it be able to just create the sco file rather than a
bunch
of little files..

ask Nicola first to be sure .

Not yet. I need another 3-4 hours or so (I'm on something else at
the moment...). But they are there... (no binaries though - I can't
compile them, unless Ed wants to provide them directely).

one/all/none of these apply??
=====================
1) you have not same versions (old mac version)?
(newest = ftp://mills.edu/ccm/csound.ppc/Csound3.49.1PPC.sit.hqx)
2) you have newest mac version, which has a bug that file-creation buffer sizes
are not set properly
(too small so could slow down disk writing)?
3) maybe in newest version which now identical to PC code does not do text
messaging most efficient way,
try turning off messages or use listing file to see if that affects anything?
4) the speed difference is not that much to matter to a composer?
5) if you are using the "render time" output at the end it could quite possibly
be (very) inaccurate?
6) apple sucks?
7) the mac port sucks, as it is currently being supported by a lazy young

Hi all,
I've been using Direct Csound 2.1 for about a week now
and have noticed a couple of thingis......
1. I wrote in an instrument :
aout = (aoutres + aoutlp)*iamp
but 'aoutlp' was a typing error, It was never defined and exsists
nowhere else in the code.
For some odd reason Csound never said anything about it, compiled
with no errors
and just regarded it as a zero i guess. It did output: aoutres*iamp.
2. Have any problems been noticed concerning 'ictrl7' ?
I have a score-activated instrument (that is then held in the orc)
that uses one midi controller.
ictrl7 didn't work, but ctrl7 did.
I don't recall such a problem in RT1.9.
any advise will be welcomed :-)

To answer the problem with libraries we will need to know what your
platform and compiler is, and what header files you are missing. the
Csound headers should all be there in the zip archive. Sometimes a
compiler will try to find headers even though they are for a different
platform and are/should be ifdeffed out. The other question is whether
your paths are complete, so the compiler knows where to look.

Not having a Mac, a guess: its not the machine, its the compiler. VC++
(if that is what you are using) creates 'precompiled headers'; this can
speed up compilation quite a lot. it can also do 'incremental
compilation', which means a file does not have to be recompiled from
scratch each time, if there is only a small change. Possibly Code
Warrior (if that is what you are using...) does not do tricks like this?

The Csound Manual, .pdf version, is now updated to include Csound Version
3.49. There are some other changes as well (improvements, I hope).

For what it's worth, the CDP port is not really in the running any more,
as it is very very out of date - we are now simply including the
canonical PC version. I do have a few ideas for a new CDP-specific
version, such as adding support for CDP pvoc analysis files, and links
to our breakpoint file formats, but these are not currently high on my
list of priorities!

If you want a program that will generate sco files with a nice graphic
interface, try my GrainMaker 2.0 (Macintosh) found at:
ftp://ftp.ircam.fr/pub/forumnet/max/FAT/applications
with warmest regards,
Jon
P.S. Should be a new version of GrainMaker available in the next couple of
months

It'll do, or we could use 'build' when speaking about compiling Csound.
I assumed the latter in my reply, because of the other post discussing
libraries.

The XAK system does run on the Extended Csound -- I know as I
implemented it over a year ago. So does sndwarp opcode, and indeed
most of the opcodes in my public version. Who knows, it might even
run Richard Karpen's one-the-fly code soon after it is available.

=By reinstalling the compiler on a different machine I have managed to
rebuild the DOS version for 3.49
Confusingly this is called csound_new.zip and is in pub/dream/newest
on ftp.maths.bath.ac.uk
I still have hardware problems with the Atari though.
