Thank you to all who replied to my request for information. I am planning
to continue the project over the summer in a broader way than the course
allowed. (So I'm still interested from hearing from those of you who wrote
saying you would have time to write to me in June!) I will be replying to
people individually at the end of next week after I finish(papers) and
recoverfrom(semester).

Thank you again. I may yet be able to combine my two passions
(ethnomusicology and electro-acoustic music)...but that's a battle for next
winter when I start writing my dissertation prospectus...

Keep on coding!

~~Charles

Attention newbies and the generally confounded :-)

For those of you who don't know about it,there is an EXCELLENT tutorial
that is a companion to the Csound MIT manual.Bit like a Rosetta stone for
the MIT manual.Makes things crystal clear.
Written by Allan Schindler ,Eastman Computer Music Center at the Eastman
School of Music.
It's actually for his classes, but it's there if you want it.Just ignore
the stuff referring to specific other software tools they use, like "Score
11",etc., they're easy to spot.

It's in 6 chapters of between 35 and 58kb each.

Not certain of the URL ( I was on a Unix shell) ,this may be right
 If this is wrong,go
to and search for "Csound FM synthesis
Eastman".Should be the first result listed.

There's actually a lot of stuff on the net in the form of class notes, etc.

Dear users,
I have just uploaded a csound and music technology website,
if anyone wants to have a look you can find it at
http://www.btinternet.com/~d.fattorini/danindex.html
any comments or suggestions would be most welcome, also I plan to set
up a little index of example orchestras and scores based on synthesis,
rather than using input sound files, so if anyone wants to mail them to me
please do,
         Thank you,
                   Dan.
