| I'm sorry!
Today I allowed tactlessness in formulating
question about algorithms for DX7.
The only reason why I didn't refer to Russell Pinkston
as author of those algorithms was sleepless night and
(as a result) "twilight of mind" in the morning.
Excuse me again.

2:00-5:00 Seminar with Jean Piche on his computer music and multimedia
works using Csound and Cecelia
Software Synthesis With Csound will introduce participants to the Csound
software synthesis programming language. Csound is a flexible language
that enables the user to generate sounds that are not possible with any
commercially available synthesizer. The course will provide a survey of
a wide variety of synthesis, analysis/resynthesis, and digital signal
processing techniques. The course will systematically move from the most
simple to complex sound design in Csound, introducing all of the Csound
opcodes along the way. Participants will have ample access to computer
music workstations to apply their newly acquired programming skills.
Participants will be given a CD-ROM with Csound, manuals, and numerous
supporting programs.
The Intensive Csound workshop will be limited to 15 participants to
ensure adequate access to the computer music workstations.
The fees for Intensive Csound are $750 for professionals and $500 for
students.
Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis until the
workshops are filled. To apply, please submit the information form at
our web site: http://www.music.unt.edu/CEMI/cb

Fellow Csounders:
A while back several folks posted some Hilbert frequency shifting orcs
and scos. I have managed to inadvertently toss those emails and am
interested in having another look at the instruments. I would be
grateful if they could either be posted again or sent to me directly (to
avoid filling up the list with repetitious material). Thanks for your
assistance!

I saw an orc that would track only the blue color in a mandelbrot
set which is sort of similar to what you proposed doing with csound
rotating the sound as if it was a piece of tape being spliced together
but it seems to me that your limited in approximately
three ways along that lines of thinking:
1 forward play at > or < sr
2 reverse play at > or < sr
3 invent a new opcode ( and this is where we all smile big)
but this does bring to mind an interesting fractally orriented
filter which could function in a similar fashion as an
lpc. but it would track certain frequency similar to a single band
vocode combined with the above .
just a idea though, not a polished principal.
but the band would be wide enough to get the impression
of your initial sound tweaked a bit with convolve along =
a single band. and then mix wet or dry as out put in the opcode =
we propose here.

I SUPPOSE I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC.

please post any piece you are working on. that is one of the reasons for this
list. i love to see what others are working on. opcode talk is a big part of
this list, but so is music. we also tend to talk about many other things that
dont have to do with csound. no one seems to mind. i dont.
csound talk would be boring if no one did anything with it.

Jon,
I see that the Intensive Csound and Automated Music Comp. Workshops are
restricted to only 15 and 25 participants respectively. Given what I believe
to be the importance of such workshops to the wider computer music community,
and the difficulty of attending for many of us from overseas, would it be
possible to put together some sort of package that we could all access from
www.music.unt.edu/CEMI/cb/ ? In this way, many more people could benefit from
the workshops.
I don't know what form this package would take, but I for one would be willing
to pay for it as it would be a very valuable resource. I don't think we have
to persist with the traditional concept of a workshop in the physical
face-to-face sense. There must be a way of bringing a workshop to the Net. The
package has to be more than just documentation of each session's proceedings,
after the event.
Ideally, a two-way interaction (not necessarily real-time) between those
physically attending, and the on-line participants (observers ?) would be the
way to go. The on-liners could run examples, exercises etc. after logging off
from each session, and have valuable feedback to contribute to the next one.
If this is impractical, then on-line participants could at least be observers
- but could still access exercises and examples to try out for themselves.
All the best,
Bob Douglas

Would it be a way to get variable band-limited distortion? Table lookup-based is
static... maybe interpolating beetween a number of different tables...
