SubjectCsound Slack
Hi All,

Together with Rory and Bernt I setup a Slack community,
csound.slack.com. If you would like to join it and give it a try,
please use the following link:

https://csound-slack.herokuapp.com/

to have an invitation sent to your email to join the Slack community.

Currently there are just the default channels #general and #random,
and I have also setup a #blue channel. We can setup other channels as
well by interest (i.e., #beginners, #installation, #sounddesign,
etc.). Perhaps best at this point to join the main slack and discuss
there for other channel interests.

We originally tried this at the Csound Conference in Russia, but found
we didn't have an easy way to deal with invites. Now that is in
place, we can try this out and see if it will be a useful tool for our
community.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply here to me off list.

Thanks!
steven

Any descrition of what a Slack community does/offers/provides? How do I
know if I want to join? Does it delete all my files or ust some of them?

Slack is a communication tool similar to IRC. On top of standard IRC
kinds of things (group, direct chat), it has a lot of other
functionality like sharing files, nice links when URLs are put, and
external application integration. For more information, you can
browse the main slack site at http://slack.com.

Slack also has an IRC gateway so that IRC clients can be used to
communicate with it. (This needs to be enabled, but that's easy
enough to do if there is interest.)

I hadn't gotten into slack until recently where it's popped into use
by a number of other communities I'm a part of. It has an attractive
UI and is good for casual conversations, IMO.
