Sorry for typos.  Shoukd read

I just ran on my Linux system and it sounds the same to me either with 
-odac or to file 16bit or 24 bit.  No overflows but no crackles.  Some of 
the attacks seem abrupt but not distorted.

That rather asks how you are playing the soud file, what platform, hadware 
etc
