Hi All, I came across this today: https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/25/gears-of-war-4-microsoft-research-triton/ and found it rather impressive. The article has a nice demo video as well as a link to the paper describing the details of the implementation. Wow, I remember playing counter strike back in the days and they had some reverb effects, but nothing close to this. 2016-10-25 23:07 GMT+02:00 Matthew Geoghegan <mjpdgeoghegan@gmail.com>:

WOW. Awesome. Thanks for sharing. We need an opcode for that! -dB On Tue, Oct 25, 2016 at 3:45 PM, Steven Yi <stevenyi@gmail.com> wrote: Hi All, _____________________________________________ Dr. Richard Boulanger Professor of Electronic Production and Design Professional Writing and Music Technology Division Berklee College of Music ______________________________________________ President of Boulanger Labs - http://boulangerlabs.com Author & Editor of The Csound Book - http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/csound-book Author & Editor of The Audio Programming Book - http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/audio-programming-book ______________________________________________ about: http://www.boulangerlabs.com/about/richardboulanger/ about: http://www.csounds.com/community/developers/dr-richard-boulanger/ music: http://www.csounds.com/community/developers/dr-richard-boulanger/dr-richard-boulanger-music/ ______________________________________________ email: rboulanger@berklee.edu facebook: https://www.facebook.com/richard.boulanger.58 |

Maybe an auralization opcode as an addition to Victor Lazzarini's set of CUDA opcodes? Ray tracing is what graphics cards do, after all... Regards, Anders > 26 okt. 2016 kl. 18:58 skrev luis jure |

On a related matter, the audio engine in this video and running in many other hit games like Overwatch, League of Legends, even the remake of DOOM nowadays is Wwise. I saw that Csound has an integration with FMOD Studio. It'd be interesting to see a similar plugin for Wwise as well. PureData already took the step into the cross-sound-engine biz: https://enzienaudio.com. You can get an idea of the sound engine popularity and general game audio business at GameSoundCon: Thanks, Beinan On Wed, Oct 26, 2016 at 12:58 PM, luis jure <ljc@internet.com.uy> wrote: el 2016-10-25 a las 15:45 Steven Yi escribió: |

Does Wwise have an open API like FMOD studio? If so then it shouldn't be much work to create a Wwise plugin too. I'm working with game engines again next semester so I expect I will get some time to explore this then. On 26 October 2016 at 19:13, Beinan Li <li.beinan@gmail.com> wrote:

Yes, Wwise has an SDK, and it supports writing a variety of plugins, like synth ("source") and effects plugins, and even mixer plugins (binaural, spatial audio): There are already some commercial plugins written around it like McDSP, iZotope Trash, Dolby Atmos, Auro3D etc. Blizzard's Overwatch team wrote its own early-reflection plugin, another interesting talk right there: Thanks, Beinan On Wed, Oct 26, 2016 at 2:48 PM, Rory Walsh <rorywalsh@ear.ie> wrote:

I suppose this thread has split into two parts now: 1. I'd love see this kind of research implemented within Csound. I don't know if it's something that requires natively programmed opcodes, or something that could be done using just UDOs and Csound ORC programming. I'm also curious as to how this might integrate with non-game uses. 2. Thanks Beinan for mentioning Wwise and the further game audio links. It's a rich world and it seems like it would be nice to make use of Csound within these systems. steven On Wed, Oct 26, 2016 at 2:48 PM, Rory Walsh |

I remember meeting some of the Audio Kinetic guys at a DAFx conference, possibly Graz. They seemed to have cornered the games sound design market. ======================== Dr Victor Lazzarini Dean of Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy, Maynooth University, Maynooth, Co Kildare, Ireland Tel: 00 353 7086936 Fax: 00 353 1 7086952 > On 26 Oct 2016, at 20:32, Rory Walsh |

Ah, but just think about the unlimited possibilities of procedural sound/music that csound would allow! There was a lot of interest in No Man's Sky and the algorithms that procedurally generate the visual environment. Well, csound is the undisputed leader of algorithmic composition tools, isn't it? One could tap directly into the visual algorithms and render sound, given som clever parameter mappings (and limitations/safeguards). Regards, Anders > 26 okt. 2016 kl. 21:49 skrev Victor Lazzarini |

I agree. If we had a dedicated marketing team I believe Csound would be the defacto toolkit for any kind of embedded software/hardware solution.
