Dear community!

Is there an official csound logo? 
Dr B use something rather stylish and minimalistic for the Boulanger labs apps, but I suppose they are not Creative Commons?
If there isn't a logo, wouldn't a design "competition" be nice for the anniversary?

No lower case ‘c’!  That’s very wrong, we need to fix this once and for all. The software is called Csound, not cSound, not
CSound, not CSOUND. The full-lower case csound is acceptable inasmuch as its the name of CLI frontend.

cSound or CSound just grates me no end!

Peraps we should start withh the currently used logos -- I am not sure ow 
many but I tink I know 3 or 4

Agreed.  The Cs logo is the standard symbol for the element cesium. I rather doubt it could be copyrighted or trademarked, but then I'm not a lawyer.

I made images for Csound for Android using Cs and they are in git.

I have used this one since csound4 or earlier.  Other examples as I find 
them (the Android one was in my count).  But note I am not a 
graphics-minded person.  No need for logos on the command line.

the original logo had a subtle ascending diagonal implied by the lower case
s followed by an upper case C. i not only found that attractive, i also
tried to keep as much as possible the original design.

anyway, we can keep throwing ideas, but the important question is: who is
going to decide which is going to be the "official" Csound logo?

perhaps there is not even someone to answer it in an anarchic project 
like this ...

but perhaps there can be a consensus anyway?  or we have more than one 
"official" logos?

or a battle between one true, one veritable, and one beautiful logo? 
with an incurable division of the three groups, including forks, 
hate-attacks, pamphlets, marketing shows?

i don't think so, and i like the idea that we have none to decide but we 
may find something like a logo finally anyway ... for a time ...

We have survived this long without one. I am not sure if text based systems actually need a logo? C, C++, Java, do they have logos? If so they can't be that great because I can't ever recall setting them!

yes! we definitely need a short Cs logo for icons and the like, and it

i like the general idea, but i think it could be improved. personally i'm
not sure about the typography, and in any case i think it should be
bolder. the layout of the "sound" part to the circle isn't unproblematic,
either. here is where we need a professional. do you have a vector version?

I agree and would propose some kind of collective payment. I benefit 
professionally from Csound and rely on it on a daily basis.

The background story for me is that I face _every_ time the problem of 
having to convince a performer/ensemble/institution of using Csound for 
a project, often faced with the response that it is too "hacky" and not 
professional (professional being for these people something like Max). I 
think a nice, well-done logo would really help.

In fact I would like to extend this quest to two things:

1) CsoundQt, which is the "face" of Csound that a 
performer/ensemble/sound engineer is normally confronted with when 
having to set up a csound patch for performance. The logo/icons look 
somewhat DIY (even the "boring" ones, which should be the default) and 
this does not do justice to the greatness of the software behind (in 
fact, the visual design of the widgets is actually very good)

2) When asked to download csound, MANY people land first on csounds.com
The existence of this website is really confusing and has been discussed 
here before.
