"Crude" & "imprecise" I could maybe learn to deal with -- but sensitive at least in a useful range? 	Okay... I guess not then. Meanwhile, I'm picking up a fairly steady amplitude from a (bass recorder) mouthpiece, tube, & an old thrift-store microphone with the crackly screen removed, all secured in place. (Similar, in principle, to what you had in mind, without the need to wire things together? Or significantly less functional?) Anyway, I think this will work if I can reduce the sound from other sources... (And keep my drool from shorting out the mic parts.)
