Peter Burgess, May 21 2016: ... > as always, let me know what you think! Hey hey pete, the overall sound and arrangement is very nice. If I had to say anything in criticism about it, it would be that the snare mostly sounds a little too thin and the hihats could use some more movement. The variations are really good. Perhaps, when the bass is really distorted, it might sit well with an extra clean sinewave to hold up the bottom end. Fantastic work! Ah man, the snares still too thin? :) That was the main focus of my work yesterday, lol. When you say the hi-hats need more movement, do you mean they could use some slight variation with each hit? On the subject of the bass, that's a good idea. I did something similar with the deep house bass, but didn't think of it this time, despite also noticing that the bass lacked in sub bass sometimes :D I reckon it would take only a minor addition to decide whether the sound is going to be distorted enough to warrant some extra bass. Peter Burgess, May 22 2016: ... When you say the hi-hats need more movement, do > you mean they could use some slight variation with each hit? No I was thinking of rhythmic variation. But thinking about it now, I guess this was a prepared clip and not an example of the the compositional aspect will be. ... Sorry about the snare comment. Perhaps you could layer it with a sample of one of Csound snare opcodes. I remember, that there is an STK one. It's pretty impressive! It doesn't sound like a pro audio to me though. The individual tracks are too much separated for me. Like there is no glue or idea that binds the tracks together. It sounds to dry but maybe it's good for the style that you are imitating. It can be used as a game soundtrack. It's very well done for automatic music production. 2016-05-22 17:33 GMT+03:00 Ffanci Silvain <silvain@freeshell.de>: Peter Burgess, May 22 2016: |

By tracks I mean melodic lines for individual instruments within the single track. 2016-05-22 20:48 GMT+03:00 Anton Kholomiov <anton.kholomiov@gmail.com>:

@Ffanci Don't worry about the snare comment! I need these kind of comments. I have given myself the task of trying to algorithmically generate compositions and instruments that meet the criteria of almost every genre imaginable (and hopefully cover some new ground aswell eventually!!!). No one man can be the expert of every genre, not even close. Infact, the more I work on this, the more I realise it's hard to be an expert in even one genre, because everyone likes different things even within a single sub-sub-genre. Eventually I hope to hire help to increase the spectrum of musical taste within my development team, I think with a project like this, that's going to become very important. Currently though, I just have myself, online resources and outside critique to work with! @Anton So we're talking about a mixing/mastering issue? Like the kick/snare/hat/bass don't always sit well together? I could believe that. I have to wonder though how much of an impact the sudden change of all the instruments has, I mean if you weren't constantly comparing the last set of instruments to the next, if the instruments were more consistent like in an actual track, maybe the problem wouldn't present itself in quite such an obvious way? Like Ffanci said, the bass could definately do with a boost in some of the more distorted bass synths, which means those lines don't work very well one after the other. But it might not be that at all, it's definitely not mixed and mastered well enough yet :D Thanks again for your comments! While it won't be instantly apparent from the work that I'm taking what you say on board, it is all going in, and will eventually come back out ;) On Sun, May 22, 2016 at 6:50 PM, Anton Kholomiov |
