Today it's IDM! https://soundcloud.com/algorythmradio/sets/idm-development-update I have to admit, it's not the finest mixing/mastering I've ever done, but I had to get something out, it's been too long since I released the last genre examples! Hope you enjoy, all criticism and comments are very welcome! Pete |

Seems like a good choice for platform game soundtrack) hint: to add small variations on drums. so that at every note there is a tiny random shift in volume and in center frequency of the filter. That will make them more alive. less strain on ears due to exact repetitions. 2016-03-28 22:59 GMT+03:00 Peter Burgess <pete.soundtechnician@gmail.com>: Today it's IDM! |

Yeah you're right, I didn't do that this time, I did that on the first world lounge examples because I was trying to make the drum samples sound semi real, but really I should do that for the purely electronic sounding genres too. It's that quick repetitive snare that's the worst isn't it, I almost considered ditching a couple of the tracks that did that, but I should do as you say instead, that would probably clear that issue up! Cheers for the feedback :D Pete On Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 8:49 AM, Anton Kholomiov |

Peter, Nice. Thanks for making and sharing. Agree with Anton about the "easy" sonic-animation tricks you could/should employ. And... For me, the melody could use some life too (in the way it defines the phrase - there is no "arc" and no "breath".) Essentially, your "players" are playing well, but they aren't "listening" to each other. -dB On Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 5:48 AM, Peter Burgess <pete.soundtechnician@gmail.com> wrote: Yeah you're right, I didn't do that this time, I did that on the first _____________________________________________ Dr. Richard Boulanger Professor of Electronic Production and Design Professional Writing and Music Technology Division Berklee College of Music ______________________________________________ President of Boulanger Labs - http://boulangerlabs.com Author & Editor of The Csound Book - http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/csound-book Author & Editor of The Audio Programming Book - http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/audio-programming-book ______________________________________________ about: http://www.boulangerlabs.com/about/richardboulanger/ about: http://www.csounds.com/community/developers/dr-richard-boulanger/ music: http://www.csounds.com/community/developers/dr-richard-boulanger/dr-richard-boulanger-music/ ______________________________________________ email: rboulanger@berklee.edu facebook: https://www.facebook.com/richard.boulanger.58 |

Thanks Rich, great feedback! You're absolutely right, they don't actually listen to each other at all at the moment! I have a whole series of melody/rhythm generators planned, some of which will reference the other instrument parts, but I haven't implemented these yet. I also lost a load of my current melody generators when I introduced note slides. This is making the melodies far simpler than they were. I should probably delve back into that part of the app again before I release any more examples. In fairness, I really enjoy that part of the app. That's the bit of the code that makes me feel like I'm writing a trillion songs all at once :D I'm glad you picked that up, because it had slipped to the back of my mind. What do you mean by arc and breath? On Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 7:04 PM, Dr. Richard Boulanger |

By "arc" and "breath" I mean phrasing, silence, pace, themes that breath, using silence and rests (appropriately/idiomatically/musically.) right, i'm with you now! that's something that's gonna take a little more time to figure out and work into the algorithms, but it is duly noted. Thanks! On Wed, Mar 30, 2016 at 2:44 PM, Dr. Richard Boulanger |
