Greetings Everyone, Here are links to two Visual Music compositions recently completed. The first, "Reflections and Refractions" consists of four kinetic studies of a digital sculpture. https://youtu.be/-DAK-2bgyEo The second, "Apparitions", consists of 13,890 variations on an oil painting. https://youtu.be/mPjD4zl4IiY Both were produced using Csound, Cmask and Maya. Be well, Michael |

Hello Michael, Thanks for sharing these with us. In Reflections... I especially like studies 2 and 3 - where the sounds are more closely "reflected" in the images. True, study 4 does have all the interruptions and percussive moments, which are dramatic and powerful, and make for a great ending, but I like the inner 2 best. Apparitions - love it. Love the way it "breathes". Not sure "which" of the over 19,000 variations I like best. :-) I think that they all work beautifully. Part 2, as things get more percussive and fractured is a nice and refreshing compliment to the first section. Lots of great "motion" in this part too. And, of course, the painting that this is based upon is really fantastic! On Sun, Mar 6, 2016 at 11:09 AM, Michael Rhoades <mrhoades@perceptionfactory.com> wrote:

Rick and Art,
Thank you so much for your comments. I truly appreciate the feedback. After working closely with a choreographer and dance company on two of my musical pieces a couple of years ago, I realized a correlation that has become a driving force in my visual music work... In dance, the relationships between the dancer's movements and the music are constantly changing throughout a composition. There are times when the two are in unity, harmony, counterpoint, completely disconnected and etc... There are times the music pushes, pulls or leads the dancers and times when the reverse is true... and many other relationships are occurring both subtle and overt. Seeing this I decided to approach visual music composition in the same manner. I also wanted the music to remain grounded in the same formal relationships in visual music pieces as when composing, for instance, a fixed media piece. For me it is important that the two aspects are tightly interwoven and equally important aspects of the overall composition. In the end, none of this would be possible without Csound and the extensive labors of the dedicated Csound community!! Thanks again for watching and listening.
